Launched at about 6am from Baby Beach and headed straight for the Pipe. Wind was offshore, water was 65-66º. Started in the shallowest section I had in my GPS and the bite was on. I actually lost track of how many fish I had in the first 20min. Pretty much every other cast was a fish. This lasted about 45min. and I got my 2 biggest of the day during this period too. The sandie below was about 4-4.5 and I had a calico about 3-3.5 that I didn't get a shot of. After this full speed start it dropped off to a slow pick the rest of the morning. Moved out to deeper water once the inside bite died. Had a bit of a surprise at one point when I wound up my bait and had about 100lb thresher follow it all the way to the yak. Its tail actually hit my yak. Saw it later slashing through some of the abundant bait that was around.

About half the fish I got were suspended and either hit on the sink or while I was winding up. The 3" Flurry in Seafood got me both my bigger fish and many smaller ones. Also, the 5" Big Hammer in christmas tree, my secret weapon, and 4" Flurry in Seafood also caught fish. I headed in about 10:30 and I figure I had around 40 bass, mix of sandies and calicoes. Most were cookie cutters, but I still had a blast. Anybody want to hit it tomorrow? If not, I think I'll go do some pre-fishing in Newport.

Lost track of how many fish......Damn Ed. I wish I had that problem. I'll try to make it out there with you soon.

Man, that's a nice size sandie!
Thanks for posting, usually don't see many reports from DP.

Did your coffee taste salty or fishy afterwards?

Sweet taste of victory! :)

Yep, I usually end up with salty coffee at least. That one did get a little slime on the cup too.

You know, I was going to approach Starbucks with an idea for some new flavors....
