Get'in buzzed in the kelp - NOW IN HD!!!

Some days are batter than others, and after weeks of chasing school after school lockjawed (for me anyway) breezers and then blowing two shots in a row one afternoon to poorly maintained spectra (and getting kelped) that was frayed above the knot I remembered why I hate spectra and was always so anal about inspecting my line.

So after a long peddle back to the launch beating my self up about not re-tieing those frayed rigs, I stayed up late that night making sure everything was right...about a week later I got another chance.

It's no secret that YT are structure orientated fish, and in the past you could usually target them 100yrd or so away from the structure/kelp so you would have a chance at landing a fish you hooked. This spring it seems the kelp has died off a little and the YT have been putting on a show directly over/in the kelp which has led to alot of heartbreak I'm sure.

This morning was no different than any other except maybe alot less people on the water. By the time I got infront of the condo I knew there was a good chance I would get another shot at those YT...or maybe more than one shot.. so I dug out the camera, quadruple checked my bait set-up and jig stick's spectra, and got ready to roll film.

Not to long after that I found these fish chewin in about 70-80' of water with submurged bull kelp everywhere, if you watch the videos in HD you can actually see it on the FF, the second video was in about 65' of water with kelp everywhere.....not the position you want to be in without spectra.

I shot some more good film very recently, but I still need to pull it off the camera.... stay tuned.:bandit:

Nice........I feel your pain, i lost a hog to unknown structure a month back, it was near the kelp but felt rigid, abandoned lobster trap maybe.

Good job dude.

Will do, I've seen these on YT before. I carefully cut this off the fish and took a closer look....after carefully cleaning the fish's flesh away from the head of this thing i exposed what looked like a suction cup type mouth...looks like some kind of lamprey eel but not sure....I thought about taking pics but figured nobody would really be interested. It also discolored the meat a little in that area and also part of an organ, but still tasted great Kama style :D

Next time I'll just leave'um on there for a little added flavor/protien.

yup, I know the kind... they seem to like pelagic fish. I first saw them on swordfish caught in Monterey Bay, then Dorado, and Yellowtail from Socal. But I've never never seen them in a tuna or inshore caught yelowtail... interesting, and thank you

Dear Mr. Red Hand,

The HD is insane, the report is top notch, the conditions
look epic, the fisherman is still way too lucky, but most
of all that spectra looks and sounds so good...

Thanks for sharing.:luxhello:
