one for kayaking and fishing in cali newport harbor and la jolla

Just make sure it has a high back first... Then I went with one that had nice pockets and adjustabiltiy...

You will only buy one and use it for a long time most likely so go nice!

what phatford said get one that fits good and has a high back. A regular pfd or a ski vest will not be comfortable on a kayak. Get one for paddling. look into NRS and stolquist and oynx i'm sure there are others out there but those are the ones I can speak for.

i have the extrasport sturgeon fishing pfd. it is a nice one, but the front the foam padding is pretty bulky and when it is not cold out i tend to not want to use it.
i had purchased this thru the internet and if i were to have tried this in a store, i wouldn't have bought it because of the bulky front. but after saying that it is a good jacket. has lots of pockets and i like that the front pocket has a storage for hooks.

I have the same one, for the money I justified it as a one time use all the time neccisary thing.

Also I am not a fan of the self inflating type, unless it has the automatic discharge as soon as you hit the water. The self inflate type won't work to well if you get knocked out for some reason. If you have the presence of mind and everything to inflate it then you probably didn't need it.

The fisherman is a very nice vest. I wear a Harmony FZ 7.7 personally. I like the lower profile and lack of bulky pockets.

And OEX is cheaper :luxhello::luxhello::luxhello::luxhello:, support your local shop :D. If you stop buy they also will drop you some kayak gear knowledge, not going to get that at REI

What do you know about the Kokatat Bahia Tour Fishing PFD or do you know anyone that uses one? Looks like a nice one too... but I'm new to this sport and have no idea yet... don't even own a kayak yet... just now doing research on all of this.

Also these two look promising too from Kokatat... any thoughts, anyone?

(*Although originally designed for women, this one is unisex and have heard guys like it's fit too... :::shrug?::: )

I own the Kokatat Outfit Tour. The Bahia Tour is the newer version. I believe they fit they same way, but the pockets are in different configurations. I like the pfd. It has an inside pocket as well. It fits tight and allows for good arm movement. It does not have a high back, since it was made for sit-in kayaks. I plan to rework the stitching to make it a high back. I have seen some do it and it does not compromise the integrity of the pfd.

* I just quickly found a link for you. Search around for a better price on the net or hit up your local kayak shop.

** I just noticed your link to the Outfit. The Outfit pfd in your link looks like a winner to me....
