Hospitals or Wind N' Sea? Coming from a San Diego native---that's hilarious!

I'll take a stab and say South Sunset Cliffs, on a minus tide. Looks like a relatively flat day. perfect for shallow-water bug hunting. Ryan's dad looks like he's got it pretty dialed---nice work! And obviously Ryan is stoked watching his dad bring home the bacon. Good job dad :luxhello:.

tunaseeker 02-17-2011 07:27 PM

Awesome! Great vid and bugs too! Gotta get my son out there as soon as we figure out how to grab those bugs!

Heck, lets link everybody to a Google earth image of the Cliffs and pinpoint it for them!

Slammin a guy for not saying/knowing where it it is and then telling everyone where the spot is - that's hilarious!

There are no lobsters at the cliffs...

Only angry locals who will shoot there boards at you...

Stay away!

Iceman 02-17-2011 08:43 PM

I'd recognize that eel grass anywhere. Alot of the grooves in those cliffs are mine from pulling 100 pound kelp filled hoops up. :biggrinjester:

THE DARKHORSE 02-17-2011 09:44 PM

I love lurkers...I mean first posters!

Welcome to the site. Just curious, how often do you create a new screen-name?

And do you really shoot your boards at guys picking bugs? I thought I've seen every angle of localism (vandalism to cars, fights in the water, destroying a guys board, to guys ganging up on one dude back on the beach. Attacking a father and son hunting Lobster might take the cake, though :biggrinjester:.

To clarify: I just threw out a wild guess; you were the one to make sure everyone in the world knows the correct location. I guess I was right, though :p.

Funny thing, I just got out of the water from surfing the cliffs. You know, that secret stretch of Point Loma with a few hundred guys surfing on every swell? It's a secret spot! Unfortunately, every person in California knows about it, though. I guess the words out?

By the way, as you might imagine, this isn't the best way to get your point across. If you'd like, I could put up hour after hour of guys getting pitted at (surf-spot deleted). Oh, I guess that's a secret, too.

As a matter of fact, it's going to rain the next few day---I've got nothing, but time on my hands. Perhaps, I could put up video of each spot at the cliffs. A tutorial if you will, complete with epic footage of each spot---on their best days. Being the kook I am, I shot footage of my pro friends for years. It's quite the stockpile of footy!

Why stop there, though? I could explain the perfect tide windows and swell directions for each spot, too. Since I've studied each spot, year after year, swell after swell for quite some time.

If the surf is still solid tomorrow, I'll be surfing Luskum from about 1 p.m until sunset---just in case you want to shoot your board at me? I should get the tide from a little too high, to a little too low (at least for the current swell). We could chat on the beach, too, if you'd like to vent. I wouldn't mind blowing off some steam myself. I tend to roll by myself, but bring a friend if you'd like---sounds like you might need him.

A free seminar from Josh :biggrinjester:

Secrets, it seems everyone thinks there's a bunch of secrets, but those in the know (most everybody who've spent time OTW, know the kids vid was shot early in the season, and could be pretty much anywhere on the coast that holds bugs. Hell back in my free-diving days, I got the vast majority of bugs in water from knee deep to 15', and the kids vid simply brought back some great memories of those times. I just for the life of me, don't know why I'm not still doing it, oh yeah, now I remember, allergies and the inability to clear. The fact of the matter is that, anyone could do this, at the right time of the year along most of Southern California's rocky shoreline. Opp's I let the secret out

Ryan, you've got an awesome pops there, not only have a ball, but eating well!

maui jim 02-18-2011 09:00 AM

WHOA.........Buzzkill.......................

Tman 02-18-2011 12:09 PM

Cool video Ryan, thanks for sharing that.

StinkyMatt 02-18-2011 01:14 PM

Ryan, please tell all the guys here that the video was shot in Jamaica! It was in the sixties and the actual part of the island has since been blown up!

People, the kid has the SPIRIT and skills that many on here lack. Let him enjoy sharing his stories. Stop pissing on each others' backs.:)

Nuff said. This kid will change his avatar soon...giving the finger to all of us. The grin will be gone as well. Darn early age to be learning stinkeye...

Nice father/son team work. Looks like you got a great kid and you are teaching him well! Thanks for sharing.

Supremebeing is obviously superhardcore. The cliffs are no secret, this isn't the seventies man. Crawl back under your abalone shell. But Josh do you really have to drop the bomb (surf spot deleted)?? Now I suppose you're going to tell me there's WSB at the cliffs too??!!?

Try look for bugs at the jetty bro... the boys down there are mo friendly!:D

I couldn't agree more, Chris. I deleted the name of the surf-spot in my post so maybe you should, too? Some places need to be protected and I do respect the locals in that regard. That goes for any surf-spot, not just the spots that are most coveted. The locals run all the best lineups and that will never, never change. Besides, the last thing we want is to make the Wind N' Sea locals---and the Hospitals locals mad, too. The next thing you know the Bird Rock Bandits are going to jump in! :D So from that perspective, we probably shouldn't name any spots?

I was, like many probably were too, a bit disturbed by the the hardcore local-ism approach, though---attached to--- an awesome post with a father and son enjoying the outdoors . I typically try to stay out of this kind of stuff, but that just didn't rub me the right way.

Besides, the facts are, some places regulate themselves---if you know what I mean? Whether it's the consequences of the waves, or the the domination of the locals, on every set-wave that comes through :D.

Matt, I apologize that I found it amusing you looked at the video and Said Wind N' Sea or Hospitals. No offense, but anyone's who's been on either beach, looking in the background knows there's tons and tons of landmarks :D. If it were places without such distinguishable landmarks it wouldn't have been so funny. I shouldn't have written anything, so for that I'm sorry.

For those who don't know: At Hospitals you would have, for example, Bishops, perhaps a portion of the condo, and in the distance, Blacks. No to mention that well known golf course!

Wind N' Sea: the landmarks are also, no where near close to the video---which showed nothing but, well, cliffs made of dirt for the most part. At Wind N' Sea you have all the multi-million dollar Homes in the background, trees, beautiful landscaped beaches, with giant boulder type rock on the beach during the Winter months. I wouldn't find this amusing if Matt wasn't so acquainted with these areas. He's made a drift past these places, how many times? This post was purely made in jest. I'm sorry if it was taken for anything more than that.

I was just about to post on this thread and already knew what I was going to say: "I didn't know Justin Bierber had the lobsters on lock, too." :D

By the way, Ryan, don't take that the wrong way. You may not have Bieber-Fever like the rest of the country. So if he kind of drives you nuts, too, I meant that post as a compliment. It simply means, you've got a special spark, Kid!

Most of all, Can we please get back to this original post with a positive message? We've got another angler in the the world---good job dad!!!:luxhello:

I'm stoked if any advice I gave you on the beach helped, my pleasure.

And, there's nothing wrong with getting snagged on the kelp this time of year. That just means you're fishing in the right spot :wsb:.

ryan111 02-19-2011 09:19 AM

thanks to all of you who liked it!!

Aaron&Julie 02-20-2011 05:44 AM

Awesome video, and catch results, Ryan and father. You've got that low-tide lobstering down.
Sorry about 2nd guessing the size on one of your previous catch. Those were obviously legal and nice sized ones to boot. Congratulations.

YakMedic 02-20-2011 09:25 AM

Awesome job, its good to see you having that much fun with your dad out there. Keep it up.

maui jim 02-20-2011 05:47 PM

Sherm 02-22-2011 11:36 AM

And I used to paddle a long way to get to that spot. I should have just gone for a dip.

Nice job with Dad. Looks like a waterman is in the making. Keep it up.

Amish Ed 02-22-2011 02:21 PM

Great post. BTW, the kid ASKED for people to guess the spot.

Caffeind 02-22-2011 02:48 PM
