One Pro Angler and a Revo later, I finally picked up my new Hobie Adventure TI yesterday - This is a big boy!
I Don't really know how I am going to fish with it yet, but I am sure I will figure it out. At least now, I can finally get back to work. |

Dana Point Jet Ski has their year end sale this weekend. I think Tim has one 2010 left... |
We have had out 2 TI's for a little over month now. Although you could probably tell me more about them after one excursion, the trailer is a nice way to transport them and the trampolines are really handy. We load the gear and kids on the trampolines and sit on them to fish. Right now multiple mackerel on a sibiki rig gets us going!! These are very stable. Hubby qnd kids jump off the TI's with masks to check out things below (spearfishing anyone?). Bet it would be good for hooping, although I have not tried that yet. Trolling with the sail gives the legs a break. I bet you figure out how to attach rod holders to the outriggers to do the multi rod troll before we figure that out. ( I bet the kids figure out how to tow an innertube on windy days before you do!) So many options, this is a fun machine!!!
As an aside: the webcam, the nice folks at LJ Shores with their bounty, and all the BWE posts have motivated me to get back into fishing after four kids. Kayak fishing is nothing like surfcasting for blues and stripers back east, this is way better!!!! Thanks for helping me get my groove back. |
You need to control your addiction Roger. LOL.

I agree, No kayak is worth selling the .44 mag, especially in a state like CA.... |
nothing you could do with a 44 mag in california anyways!
You shoot a bad guy and the police take you to jail. and the bad guy gets a free lawyer. :biggrinjester: imagine that Roger that thing is super sweet, I still owe ya for the kayak hanger/pulley. When you going to be out fishin next? |

I am curious as to how you plan to maneuver a big fish around the pontoons and get it close enough to gaff or release. You will need to share some stories with us down the road.
On the other side, those boats are really fun to sail. There is this interesting effect called "virtual wind" that occurs when you peddle while sailing. The forward motion created by the peddles pushes wind over the sail creating lift. If you peddle at 3 mph when the wind is blowing at 3 mph, the boat moves through water as if the wind was 6 mph. Very cool. Bob |
Landing Fish
Hey bob, check out yakass or yakabout on youtube. They land some tuna on their Islands, believe it's done easier with the tramps.
Roger, Congrats. If we ever go out, I'll bring a tow rope Dave |

So I sold the TI! Now, I am looking now for another PA or Revo, again. Preferably in Moss.
I learned a couple of valuable lessons during the process of the sale. NO KIDS! I met the buyer at Mission bay next to OEX. He wanted to see how the boat was assembled. In 20-30 knot winds, I had to put this thing together while he and his 5 year old son watched. As I was hauling this beast down to the sand piece by piece, the kid decided to use my truck as a jungle gym. The worst part of it was his dad refused to discipline or intervene. He climbed on top of the rack and swung one of the tie-downs onto the front windshield, chipping the glass while pop’s stood by and watch. Finally, I said “boy” you need to get down. Then instead of climbing down into the bed, he slid off the rack onto the windshield and off my hood! Not to be outdone, the kid then ran down to the TI, while still on the cart, and started jumping inside. I had the mast already installed when the ‘boy’ then proceeded to open the sail – Not good! 20-30 knot winds with a metal pulley on the end of the sail can really do some damage when it smacks you upside the head, which it did. Assembled finally, the dude then asks “can we take it for a spin”? WTF? So reluctantly, I agreed and off they went. About 30 min’s later they returned. As I was attempting to assist in the landing of the TI, I told him to lift the rudder with the ‘up’ handle because the boat was getting sideways in the wind. As he struggled, I told him to release the down handle from the cleat. Instead of releasing the down handle, he yanked on the ‘up’ handle so hard that he pulled the pulley system loose and the line went slack. He then commented, “What happened, I hope you can fix it”? He then proceeded to tell me, “Well, Fastlane is just over the bride, if they can fix it, you have a deal”. So over to Fastlane we went (the ‘boy’ was just as wild in the store as he was at the launch of the TI). I want to personally thank the guys at Fastlane for helping me out in my Goat f^%$ of a situation. They spent about 1.5 hours getting the rudder system to work properly, and they did for free! I know I didn’t buy the TI form them, but their customer service is awesome. Thanks guys! |
Glad to hear you were able to find a new home for your TI. Lets hope she will last with the new owner though.

If my kid did (he wouldn't) ANY of that I would be sooooo embarassed! There would be a very quick and solid hand on butt incident. You are a patient man! I guess you REALLLLLLLY wanted to get rid of the TI. See you on the water in your Revo.
