Local Knowledge heads to Mako-ville!
Just got an email that this Sunday’s Local Knowledge episode will be fishing the islands of Las Encantadas. For those that don’t recognize it - that’s the Island chain off Punta Bufeo (aka - Bob’s Place, Mako-ville).
Should be an interesting watch... Sunday at 8am on Discovery Channel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
COOL!

Thanks.
I found it on channel 73 on Spectrum. Sunday 8/5 at 8 am. |
Found a preview for it....

its only a matter of time before it gets ruined like Gonzaga/Alfonsinas...the paved road will attract many. Progress is already evident with the rental house that was built and rumors of a new La Poma restaurant in the works.
|
I saw it today.
Did not look like too much of spot burning. Mostly people talking about Baja fishing. No detail of how to get there, what to use, etc. is my recollection. No harm done I would say. |
I see the progress over my couple of years coming down. Restaurant Menus were all in English the last time I was there and the prices are significantly higher. Almost equal to an LA restaurant.
|
Ummmm, they shot this in Bahia de Los Angeles...... NOT Gonzaga!
And as stated above, not many people go to Baja these days. And Baja is hurting because of it. Baja needs our tourism dollars..... so promoting Baja is a good thing. |

If you listen at the end of the episode when they land the golden grouper they say its been an amazing day 1. I'm assuming this will be a multipart episode since they are mother shipping all the way to BofLa and back again. Luckily for us they were headed south....... Also as long as the local restaurant will continue to make fresh chicken mole and fish meatball soup from the sierra we catch they can continue to take my money I don't care if it costs a little more. |
Hey Dom...that meat ball soup is bad ass! I bet a road side stand in SF on the malecon that served only that would rock and I agree, when down there whats the dif between $3.50 and $10 bucks if it tastes good pay for it and enjoy!
|
I for one always eat there at the restaurant. Chicken Mole, Chile Verde, Sierra Abondegas, Trigger Ceviche, Any Breakfast & Cold Beer can't be beat. I bring down (or catch) the protein and they cook for $5.00 a head where can you get that in an LA restaurant? Not to mention it is world class home cooking. Plus a little money back in to the local community, priceless. I think beers were still $1.50, bargain. Sea ya in October

Things move slowly in Baja..........I would not worry about it.

The name of the episode is Islas Encantadas. The string of islands right in front of bobs place. |

Julio Meza? Nope never heard of him. You mean the guy who frequently fishes the islands and areas around Gonzaga bay? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4a41d8f418.png |
To say they were not Fishing the area around Gonzaga is an assumption on your end. I have no problem with them exploiting a little area of paradise down there because like others have said most are too scared to go down. But do you really think they would launch from Gonzaga and B line it straight down to Bahia de Los Angeles and not fish anywhere near Gonzaga? Hell of a pointless boat ride. Would make no sense at all. Why would they not just launch from Bahia de Los Angeles? Again no problem with them advertising the Fishing in Gonzaga. Hopefully it does bring a little more money down there. But they definitely did fish that area.
|
Did they lunch at Papa Fernandez?
One of my several plans to be discussed tomorrow with my friend is to take his boat. Then lunch from PF and stay on the boat. Fish and travel to Bahia de Los Angeles. Come back to PF at the end of the week. Anybody knows how long a boat ride is from PF to BdLA? |

they launched at PF. towing a boat that size between cocos and BOLA doesn't seem too fun. the boat ride from PF to the tip of Isla Angel is like 45 miles. to BOLA proper is about 65 |
Thanks.

Episode was killer and looked way more dramatically landscaped and remote than Gonzaga.
