Itinerary:

Marina del Rey to Two Harbors 4/4/2008:

Departure: 9:15am. Arrival: 11:30am (via Avalon).

Two Harbors to Marina del Rey 4/6/2008:

Departure: 4:15pm. Arrival: 6:30pm. (via Avalon)

Cost $185 this covers you and your kayak to Two Harbors, then your yak across the isthmus and your gear to campsite and the campsite fees as well and back again, if I come up a little over I am buying the firewood as well.

To secure the thirty spots on the Flyer this has to be booked and payed for one month prior. I am asking for full payment to secure your spot by March 4th. Call or stop by OEX Sunset Beach 562-592-0800

This is an open ocean paddle and I highly recommend that only those with sufficient experience attend. I will be asking people to pair (or group) up, so no one goes missing alone.

Wood, charcoal and propane are for sale on site. Camp stoves can be brought on the Flyer, but no fuel is allowed.

Judging the initial amount of interest, I assume that this trip will fill to capacity. After 30 spots are filled I will have a waiting list, for any that have to drop out. The Flyer is only allowing me 10% no show refund, so the first 3 that have to drop out, without time to fill their spot, due to illness or emergency, will receive full refund.

This should be a memorable adventure and hopefully the first of many future trips.

I'll keep everyone posted on availability:D.......who's first?

Some links:

Our campsite is #8 this is perfect as it is for groups up to 30.

Ed your buddy Alan just payed for your spot.......whatta guy!:D

MVC, happy to hold you a spot as well as all the others that have responded.

The official count is 9 people who have given me cc payment info.

The unofficial count is up to 20. In anticipation of 30 people I have to book and pay for this one month prior, so Tuesday the 4th is the official cut off.

peguinpower 02-28-2008 06:28 PM

I will be finalizing arrangements with Donfish this weekend and will send payment after Feb. months end.

peguinpower 02-29-2008 10:52 AM

Just gave my cc info to Andy. Totally stoked.

He says he's putting out a primer for those going via email.

Questions I already asked:

1) Are the kayaks rolled on and off the ferry (so we can loaded them up)?
answer: - yes

2) 16 foot kayaks ok on the ferry?
answer - yes

3) Coolers ok as checked in luggage?
answer - yes

I forgot to ask:

Is there parking for our cars at the ferry landing? For the 3 days? Not likely, but worth asking.

Good Question! Is there fresh water available at the camp site?

Donfish 03-01-2008 08:42 AM

:paddleersmilie: I'm in just gave Andre at the shop my info.

Iceman 03-01-2008 12:29 PM

Thanks Don, just got back from Yak Surf Club.

Official count is at 14, with several more hangin' on the fence.

The parking is in Fisherman's Village and the cost is $8.00 per day. The
lot is secure. There is no street parking. Park behind the El Torito
Restaurant in Fisherman's Village and our boat is docked there.

I know there is water, (there are showers) just need to find out if it is potable.

Iceman 03-03-2008 07:35 AM

If you want in Call me today!!! I originally planned for 30 and need to let the Flyer know the final count. It is currently 15 people.

I thought there was room for 30. Have you maxed out? If so, can I get on the
waiting list?

Iceman 03-05-2008 07:33 AM

I did send in the check to the Flyer yesterday, (I had to pay one month prior, to secure the space) After talking with the Flyer I will be able to add on the balance of people to maximum 30.

There was one ahead of you Dave, so you would be #25. Call me with a CC etc. I am open limited hours the next 3 days with Fred Hall. Today 9-12, tomorrow 9-2, Friday 9-2. Weekend 9-6. If anyone calls outside these hours leave a phone # and you will get on, up to 30.

Grego 03-05-2008 08:38 AM

OH MY GAAAWWWDDDD....I just can't believe you guys are putting Andy through this torture with your tardiness! Why can't people be as punctual as I and let him know one minute before the deadline:luxhello:lol:the_finger:

p.s. Troy, I have a one man tent and single sleeping bag, wanna share together? That is how they do it in Laguna Beach isn't it?

Rhyno1 03-05-2008 09:28 AM

GO CAT GO!

Well fed artesian water at the Little Harbor camp area, good for cooking etc. Also a cold shower. Bring a solar shower, for warm water shower, as long as the sun is out! Camp site Ranger has wood, propane, batteries, etc. Bring as much ice as possible, fillet knives and ziplocks for all your huge WSB, Halibut, and Yellowtail fillets! Wish I could join you, have fun, extra batterie for your handheld VHF is a good idea. TL Rhino

Tman 03-05-2008 10:15 AM

Thanks for that heads up Rhino oh Cat veteran...might change your mind, I may bring some of that special cactus juice...

Oh, and Grego, that is just plain wrong...lol

Zed 03-05-2008 11:32 AM

Oh damn, I've got my own tent.
And the Conga line starts behind T-man, he asked first.

Does Cat know it's going to be invaded?

Rhyno1 03-05-2008 12:56 PM

Go Cat GO....

Ah T-man, you know how I like that cactus juice!!! It is going to be a colorful invasion to be sure!
Grego that is just the nature of the beast, from my past experience with these sorts of trips.
If you guys need any secret spots close to camp, you better stop by and visit me at the Fred Hall show this weekend in Long Beach. My 3:15pm seminar both Saturday and Sunday is on Camping and Mothershipping Catalina and the Channel Islands, go figure! Good luck out there, be safe and have a blast! I know you will too! TL Rhyno1

spooky007 03-05-2008 06:21 PM

Andy, when your not busy with work and FHS, can we get a list of who's going???

Al

Handymansd 03-06-2008 12:15 PM

Since ice will be difficult to keep the filets... and cervesa'a for up to 3 days... should we plan on blocks instead of cubed or crushed? Just Wondering...

I also have a two person tent that I could share if needed, it is a nice Mountain Hardware conversion tent... it will sleep three, but only if I know you better!:D it is the four seasons of tents... no pun intended...

Who all will be bringing stoves that they are willing to share so that we do not have 30 different stoves? I have one, but did not know if I should bring it or not.

Does anyone have information on 12V solar chargers for VHF, batteries, etc?

I have never been on a trip like this, so I am just trying to be prepared, as you can tell I have lots of questions...:hmmmm2:.

Thanks in advance!

Opportunity favors the prepared!

I believe there are fire pits and fire wood for sale. The stoves wont be too important except for coffee or some instant food.

If you are making fresh food meals, cutting board, your knife, a pot and frying pan. If you will go the Boyardee (MRE's) way, single pot will do. Dump foil packs in hot water or just re-heat.

I have no idea how to keep fish in a trip like this. Would appreciate advise. Dont think the ice in the cooler thing will work out for three days.

/bing

Zed 03-06-2008 01:01 PM

This is obviously not a meat trip.
Think about the logistics of keeping fish.

This is very similar to an extended stay in MEX. You will not have a freezer and you will not have unlimited ice. Take what you want and eat what you take. If you're thinking of stocking up on filets, maybe you might want to just get on a Sport Boat with your $185.

Or, dump some fish on this Parker I keep reading about. That must be the reason for it being there.

tylerdurden 03-06-2008 01:08 PM

I haven't done a ferry trip to Cat either but...

Does the ferry allow dry ice in an icechest? If they do that could help with the fish storage problem if we get so lucky. I couldn't find any info on the ferry website about that. For a 3 day trip I don't think we'll need extra ice, if we stock the ice chest well before hand. I've done 3 day baja trips and the ice has been fine. Bring lots and possibly blocked ice. Maybe cut down on the beer and bring harder stuff to conserve icechest space for blocked ice and fish.

Andy (Iceman) collected all of our emails, I believe so we can organize things through email.

Don't count on the guys in the parker for storage. They are bringing at least 3 guys and fish/kayak/camping gear. They will likely already be cramped for space.

This trip is more of an adventure than a meat trip. I do hope we hit the ghosts, but you never know.
