Meh, as always I wait a couple weeks AFTER the opener so things settle down and crowds are less.
Besides, TUNA are in paddle range again!! :) |
You know... its really gross that we call them bugs.. a little too accurate.. Kinda makes you associate them with roaches, and that is not something I am going to consider eating.

Gross

Probably best to stay away from something so vile... :roll eyes:  Perhaps leave it to the exterminators... :Angel_anim: http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P2130223.JPG |

Also, remember that all of your lobster cards are due back at the end of the season. Even if you bought one online, realized it won't get here in time, and bought one at big 5. That first one is still under your name. If you know you won't use it you can mail it in right away and that'll take care of it. I'm sure some of the members here have gotten dinged that non report fee for a card they forgot about [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |
Do we need to put the license number on the buoys this year? If so is there a size requirement for that?
|
Very funny!
I bet you have been waiting months to write this post. Good one.

Gracias.

Can anyone tell me if navigation lights are required on a kayak at night?

From pages 24 and 25 of the CA ABC's of Boating...
"Navigation Lights: All vessels are required to display navigation lights between sunset and sunrise and during times of restricted visibility. In inland and international waters, sailing vessels under sail alone shall exhibit navigation lights shown on page 40. The tricolored lantern and the all-round green and red lights should never be used together. A sailing vessel of less than 23 feet (7 meters) in length shall, if practicable, exhibit those lights prescribed or have ready at hand an electric torch or lighted lantern showing a white light which shall be exhibited in suf cient time to prevent collision. A vessel under oars may display those lights prescribed for sailing vessels or have ready at hand an electric torch or lighted lantern showing a white light, which shall be exhibited in sufcient time to prevent collision." |
Good info, thanks.

I'm willing to bet that they didn't stop you because of the regulations, it had more to do with the fact that they know what happens every year at the start of lobster season. It's kind of like those DUI checkpoints that they put up after every Superbowl, they know people will be drinking and driving so what better way to prevent DUI accidents than to stop them in their tracks Be safe out there, don't become a statistic. |
And I had only just pounded my first OldE too. I deserve a break it was 0400. I couldnt be that drunk.
This was a month or so ago. And the launch was wfo w tuna mad anglers so I guess he can be a cop if he wants to. |

With all of the boat traffic that we've had lately I'm surprised we haven't had more incidents. |
Skunked at Mission Bay
We got skunked at Mission Bay. No one was getting any bugs, a first for opening night.
|
At least 1 guy got lucky

One guy, with an inflatable, had a visit from DFW this morning at Redondo hand launch. He only had 20 lobsters to his credit. Oh yeah, they were all shorts!!! Can't believe they let him leave with his boat.

Maybe about 60 shorts too. |

I have this simple calculation off hand. Pull net every 15 min..>>4/hr. X 6 hours=24 pulls, pull net every 20 min...>3/hr. X 5 hours=15 pulls, 39 pulls X 2 nets=78 pulls, Average 4 lobsters per net=312 Some pulls had 6 bugs, and a few none. Maybe close to 280 shorts would be a better figure. WOW. |
