Favorite Fish of 2007?

Figure I'd start this now... So we can get a lot of responses... Btw, only pick 1, that is why it is your favorite!!! maybe a little intro...

Caught this fish on my birthday this year, saw about 5 massive caudual fins sticking out of the water... Threw a mack... FISH ON! colored then lost it, sometime during this fight my weighted line goes off... :D end of story... 51lbs... 8ozs...

I caught this, well, right were the pic was taken....

25lb WSB caught on 25lb test with 2oz egg sinker carolina rigged to 20 lb mono w/ 2/0 circle hook

My favorite part of this story is that I was completely hungover from a concert and didn't hit the water until 10am. Fish on at 11am. Boo yah!

Kelp King 12-06-2007 02:25 PM

First fish of 2007 for me...43.5

Catching my first WSB was awesome, especially since it went 49.8lbs. and
I was targeting WSB for several months before my first.

http://www.abszero.com/fishing/07-06...Yellow-djk.jpg

But, by far, my favorite catch was this 29lb. YT caught in Baja. I was
fishing Isla San Martin, saw a bird hover over a small boil. I casted an iron and
BAM! I was on. The fight that ensued was where the drama was. The fish
ran and headed for the only kelp within 20 miles and several times I thought
I lost him in the kelp. After a couple more runs and about 20 minutes,
he was finally in my yak.

By the way, the fish was caught in a kayak. This shot was taken once
we got the yaks back to Kelly's boat (of K&M fishing in San Quintin).

Not the biggest wsb of the year for me, but it was good enough for the Derby win. 43lb 13oz on the beach.

:arne1: started the bite, I got one, then Brad finished up for a triple limit paddle in.

You’ve got to love these end-of-the-year threads… :)

This is probably my favorite fish this year - 28.5# halibut that I roped a few hours after loosing a huge halibut at the gaff... :o

Best part - it was only a couple of days after I posted "halibut landing checklist"...

And I lost that fish 100% by my own mistake… :vollkommenauf:

I pounded the area where the 1st one signed in for quite some time, all frustrated...

Then I finally decided to move away...
Within 20 minutes, I connected with this lady. :cheers1:

paddling is tough work, but the pay off is sweet!

THE DARKHORSE 12-06-2007 05:54 PM

I like the idea of favorite, as opposed to largest.

A trophy in my mind is a fish that inspires you. This was the case in my 42# 8oz Yellowtail caught last march. A fish that had me in the kelp a few times before taking me out to deeper water. At first I was stoked that I had fewer obstacles on the sonar. Then the fish sounded and held herself just off the bottom for ten minutes. I was starting to think Black Seabass, but; the tail beats were too strong. I knew I had a trophy on the other end. The memory of her at color will stick with me forever. I had so much respect for that fish that I almost let her go. She measured 51 inches and could of been a 50#. Two days later I was blessed with another trophy of the same size(one inch shorter) and followed my instincts to release the fish to fight another day.

29lb yt

All my yt this season seem to have been cookie cutters, but this one was my favorite by a long shot!!! Went on down to the fabled land only to have it not produce for me, the next day in LJ WHAM! 29ish lbs of fun!!! Kelped and won!!

Would have been nice to get a better pic, but I was one of only two guys out that day!!!:D

That's easy! By far the biggest fish I caught this year. Surface iron and 15 pound test - very exciting! Didn't have a scale but it measured 54 inches total length. Wish I could have gotten out more this year.

Tough choice, but I think I need to go with the thresher I caught in January. I was dropping down a B&W 6X trying to find one of the huge yellows that were rumored when I felt a very sharp thwack! I immediately knew it was a thresher tail whack. I stopped the iron, let it sit for a second, the shark came back and it was on! In gear, line peeling off, the thresher exploded out of the water. An hour later, Pat took this awesome picture for me.

I estimated about 90 lbs.

Not the biggest fish that I caught this year, but it was the last fish that I caught from my kayak before I injured my back. Until I start paddling again, that fish will be my favorite. It's a stinky little fish, but it motivates me when I'm doing my physical therapy. I can't wait to get back out there so I can catch something a little more impressive.

That early evening wsb bite with Tyler and Brad was first on my list until this 36# yt kicked my butt last week - definitely earned my respect. This biggun fought like a BSB on speed - my left shoulder's still hurting.

gary sullivan 12-26-2007 03:48 PM

Arne, good to see you're out there still killing them. This is my first and only legal sized butt that weighed in at 32 lbs. On it's first ascent to the surface it did a U-turn and with a slap of the tail almost jarred my glasses loose. I gaffed and secured her with a stringer on the second time around and then proceeded to beat the hell out of her before bringing her aboard. Thanks again Adi for the checklist on how to land a halibut.

There's something about the threshers fight, the crazy speed, wild change of directions, monster jumps, and then getting cracked by the tail at the end that gets the heart thumping.

Different fish, same fun.

Maybe his hand was caught in the rakers, or he was just bleating, but this was my fav of the year.

That guy is practicing some high notes. Deep Purple’s Child In Time, you know that part when they start building it up. :)

Gills...

my thumb was stuck in the corner. Gills snapped on to my thumb... :(

Love hurts Art. :D

Love the pic.

But that's for The Best Photo Biatch 2007 category... :D

FISHIONADO 12-27-2007 09:51 AM

I was visiting Hong Kong for business and saw people fishing the dirty water near the convention center. I asked one of the fishermen what they were catching, he didn't speak english but handed me his rig and showed me what to do. He had a weighted treble hook at the end of the line and some bait about 6" above that, some kind of cheese that was hard like clay. You drop the line in the water and when you feel something nibbling on the bait you lift up quickly and snag the fish with the treble hook. They were taking these home to eat. Later I saw a crowd gather around one of the fishermen to check out his whopper. It was 3" long.
