Hello again Mr. Yellowtail! LJ 29NOV
5 Attachment(s)
Got to the launch super early around 515, unloaded, set up and in water around 545. Made it to Kelp line, dropped sabiki, landed 4 Spanish in about 10 min. I had decided the day before that I was going to stay right down the middle of all the lobster pots out there and just drop a bait down low and see what happens. Started drifting around 630, knew that I had to be in by about 9 because I was going to take my wife and daughter out to SD bay for the day. Right around 845, I was enjoying my Monster when my line took off, reached around grabbed rod waited for a few seconds then clicked off drag and went to battle. I had decided Saturday to take off my 30 lb leader and go with 40 lb as I had got bitten off the week before, glad I did. This guy, I knew was the biggest one I had caught yet by his weight, strength and the longevity of the fight. He drug me right into a huge salad bowl and was doing his best to break me off, but I knew with 65lb braid and the 40lb leader I was going to be alright. 20 minutes later after multiple long runs and him ending up in the kelp, I was finally able to start hauling in some line, and it was heavy. I knew I had some kelp on there but as you can see in the pic, half the forest came up with me. Got him to surface, initially didn't see him in the kelp, then he flopped around, cleared off the kelp, sank gaff, and on board by about 910..early morning for me. Gave thanks to the man above, mother ocean, and thanked the fish :you_rock:and then perma smile.
The water temp was 65, depth was 80, probably got him at the 50 foot depth..:yt:. Dropper loop, with ringed hook, Spanish mac..8 oz sinker. Fish and game was on beach, measured to the fork 45 inches, overall length she said was about 47 to 48 because he was hanging off her scale. Weight was 31 as I had gutted him out at sea, she estimated it would of been about 34 with guts. Gonna email Hobie and tell them.."We're gonna need a bigger hatch!" Biggest yet, shared with the family and friends when I got home..:luxhello: Tight Lines!! Ryan |

@kjsdad619, what types of pants are those, and do you like them for fishing? I've been looking at different types of pants to keep my dry but not overheat this winter.

Ryan, that lettuce photo shot is just plain awesome!! :you_rock:

Nice fish! What are the odds it is the same one I got on video the day before? 1000:1? Lots of easy bait on Sat., and a few packs of rats.
|
Lol on the Bigger Hatch comment!
Yes!! Let's get Hobie to figure out a better hatch that can be cooled with ice....and longer😜😜😜 How about a better wave piercing bow as well for getting out in surf🌀🌀🌀🌊🌊🌊

That is so awesome Ryan. Glad to hear you not only got one, but a PB and topping 30lbs. I'm still waiting to top 30lbs. I love that shot with all the kelp. The 40lb leader sure helps when they drag you into all that kelp, trying to get free. It's been a while since seeing any Yellow posts and it's great to see they are still hanging out. Really nice Homeguard, Ryan. You deserve the good luck. Mark
