Let me do some checking with the bosses (both here and at home) - I'd like to join you on the May dates. When are you planning to drive down for that one? I'd probably hit the border on Friday morning...
Turned in my dues for Vagabundos at the show yesterday, so I can take advantage of their good 6 month insurance premiums and easy prepaid FFM cards. |

LAST UPDATE
At 5am, we will travel by truck to a beach near Cielito Lindo Hotel. Launch from there, this removes 5-6 miles of paddling each way and puts us really close to the mouth of the bay and the best halibut and WSB fishing. Tony from Don Eddies will set up some tables and chairs, beer will be available along with tacos for lunch. After fishing we will drive back to Don Eddies for the awards. Should be an easy, fun weekend. Early last June while I was there, Halibut over 40 lbs and two WSB over 70 lbs were caught in this bay.
This will be my return to life after my toe removal in early May. Hope to see some of you there. This could be your chance at the fish of a lifetime! You need to pay by 1 June and for planning purposes I need to know a little sooner if possible. This is the SECOND annual MakoBobs San Quintin Halibut Tourney and I know we will do better than last year????? All moneys returned 100%. |
FLY FISHERMEN
Just added. If three or more want to do a fly only division we will do it. Fly only will be a seperate side pot, but entrants will still be eligible for any other tournament prizes. YOUR FLY only entry goes into it's own division. Total cost $25.00 just like everyone else. Biggest Butt could be Fly caught and also be the tournament winner. |

Damn Bob - you read my mind! I plan on mostly chucking fur, and am busy right this second tying my "Halibut Killer" rattle flies. Hopefully I'll also have a bunch of articulated "Game Changer" flies also. Missing a few lengths of fish spines I need to track down...

That is awesome! Get to spend more time fishing the prime areas. Can't wait to get down there. What a way to start my summer vacation!

BUMP, 4 days left and counting to pay pal and a week to fish....................,.
Dr gave me a release YESTERDAY, no infection, healing well, time to spend a day on the water. San Quintin can be butt city this time of year. Tight lines. Remember to bring a gaff. |

That makes more sense👍 good luck down there |
Good news on the Dr's release Bob! I'm getting the truck ready - cleaning out the cab, making sure there is nothing there that might get me in trouble (like the box of ammo I found behind the seat).
Are we going to plan a caravan down on Friday? Or are we going to just show up at the designated time on Saturday morning... I see you got a mention in the Baja Beat section of Western Outdoor News under the San Quintin Heading! |
Hey congrats Bob. Thats awesome. Good luck.

Kai, leaving Friday morning, want to leave fairly early, staying at Don Eddies do you or anyone else want to share a room? Nice FLIES, should be a ball, hope we get some others to fish the fur n feathers. Any of you can call me at 760-692-7276. Tight lines. |
Lets convoy down together - I'm willing to share a room - sleep on the floor - sleep in the bed of my truck - whatever it takes...
Got your number programmed in my phone already - mine is 619-203-2829 |
Are there any kayaks available for rental in San Quintin? I have another buddy who is interested in fishing the tourney, but he hasn't pulled the trigger on his new kayak yet. If so, are they rigged with rod holders, etc? If not, he'll have to rent one from OEX. Thanks
|
Call Don Eddies, I know they have two but might be rented. Also try next door at K&m sportfishing they have some.
|
FYI........I will be leaving for Gonzaga early tomorrow morning for 3 days, will return on Wednesday evening.
So I will be OUT of TOUCH until then. When I return I will post total people attending and any NEW information. I will be heading down on Friday morning to check out the launch, landing area, and to get other things ready. You can reach me at Don Eddies on Friday 5 June in the evening, or meet us Saturday morning. PM any questions, thanks. Tight lines. |
So it does look like I will be making it. Got my hands on a truck.
I was seeing 15 mph forecast from the weekend. Now the question is, has anyone looked into the wind conditions? |

Don't know if you guys saw this report but I hat is one big ass kayak halibut from SQ.
http://m.sandiegoreader.com/news/201...mplates=mobile |
Other reports show 80% chance of thunder showers but 5 mph winds, I am fishing, hope to see you there. If we do get rained out we will just figure it out but I think it should be fishable. The Butt in the post above was huge and had to be a big female, it is that time of the year for them.
|
I don't care how hard it rains - so long as we don't get blown off the water I'm good to go!
