Lobster bait...chum....soap....punching bag......all sorts of good uses now!!!!
I'm all into that recycling thing.... |
"Experts aren't sure what is causing the marine mammals to get sick."
Hmmmm, what could possibly lead to an influx of weak, diseased and dying sea lions washing up on shore? I just can't put my finger on it. Hmmm. Could it be ... overpopulation? |
Hmmmmm........
Sea Lion soap. I'm sure Tyler Durden has a recipe. |
Stop being asshats!
RIP Walter.... We had many wonderful days on the water enjoying a relaxing day of playing hide and seek with my greenbacks... Can't tell you how much joy it was to watch Walter dive 200 feet to grab my hidden bait... Sometimes he even invites his friends to play along. But some of my memorable moments came playing chase the flyline bait on the surface... I often lost that game as he became better and better at spotting me from a distance like a long lost friend. Walter made me a better jig fisherman and taught me about patience and even a few new words I never knew existed in my vocabulary. Will be dumping a few macs next time I'm out to pay my respect. This was our last picture together.😥. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...0f7b2a8eed.jpg |
Good news............I hear they are making a Walter Replacement as we speak....

Nooooo! Walter, Nooooo! How could you leave us in such pain. You were so young and had so much potential. I will mourn You. Mike
PS, you guys know this is a joke, right? |
It's all fun and games until a floating buffet is sitting in the water next to you on a dive.

I can almost smell that! |
malnourished pups
I listened to a scientist from UCSD give a lecture on malnourished pups washing up last year.
Basically, there was an abundance of squid in the water last year. Sea lion mothers were gobbling up the squid instead of their usual diet of mackerel. Squid are not fatty. Mackerel are very fatty. Baby mammals need a lot of fat from their mothers' milk in order to survive, but that year the milk was not fatty as a result of mothers gorging on squid, so many pups starved. I know you're all devastated. :( |

Way too many of these stinky things.

NatGeo
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2...nimal-science/ Does natural pop regulation even exist anymore? I mean rabbits deer wolves etc go through boom and bust as forage fluctuates. Why cant sea lion's pops be greater than what can be supported? I mean Darwin wrote some pretty influential works on just that. |

Momo, you really got to play/swim with Walter? You have my condolences (I imagine it's like losing a pet). I remember the seals in Redondo used to be able to recognize the 1/2 day boats from the 3/4 & all day boats. They would lay on the harbor entrance buoy until they saw one of the 1/2 days leave and a few would follow us out. When we headed south out to Rocky Point they had a pretty good idea of what we were targeting and would follow. When we headed north they seemed less interested and would/would not follow. There was one particular one (that had been named "Bubba") that was persistently pesky, he used to always find us when we got on a :wsb: or :yt: bite and he got good at picking off our fish or any other boats in the area. I also got to learn how to play hide 'n' seek with my bait with some of them (mostly the older pups and the Pelicans). I used this experience on the water to learn how to outwit the seals and land my fish faster. I also perfected my "bouncing" techniques (bouncing 20#+ :yt: over the rail got pretty easy, :wsb: not so much as I ripped more hooks out of fish trying to "bounce" them). When I get healthy I want to see if I can learn to "bounce" a :wsb: or :yt: onto my Yak faster than a seal can catch my fish, :wsb: should be easier now since I'm closer to the water! FFY :sifone: |
I think the term "saved" means something different in this article. Haha
