Anyone fishing Presidents Day 02/16?
 

Hey

I have the day off Monday. Anyone interested in fishing let me know. I open to almost anywhere and any target species. I live in the OC so I am almost mid point between LA and SD.

Let's see if weather permits . It's looking good other than the half moon .

Trust me we never made it to your honey hole or any hole for that matter. We fished for about 10 minutes in a unknown area before we got blown down the coast.

On the serious side I'm glad my friends are unharmed . Bad experience for the new guy , or first time out .

I'm not a Noob, but I am a Noob-ish to the forum.
I understand the reticence to take out people who don't have the experience or skills to be safe out on the water, I had a bad experience taking a new guy off the coast of Oregon, he had never been out on the salt and couldn't handle a surf launch, dislocated my thumb trying to help.

Anyway I want to go out to LJ on Monday, as long as the weather holds out I'm all over it.
I can hold my own, skill wise, still looking for my first YT on the kayak.

Looking to make more yak fishing friends!

If weather permits I'd like to go on Monday. Mo you down for sure? I will be in Santa Maria till Sunday, hopefully I will get back on time to get my gear ready for Monday. I will update this thread early Sunday confirming I will be able to go out Monday. :reeling:

So far I'm 70% going.. Depends on weather and if something pops up local or up north that's better than yellows...... Ta da da !

If the wind stay down to a more normal amount I'm definitely going out to LJ.

Landwhale and I are going to take a crack at the Horseshoe Yellows from Cabrillo.........unless it is foggy then we will sticking a little closer avoiding the shipping lanes.

Shoot.. Was just talking about making this trip but already planned LJ..

Do share some info on your return as far as distance and time it took..

Today it was perfect weather. Tides swinging good. Little action in AM. Right at noon it started to look fishy. You know - birds coming around... Then they came through quick. Hook ups everywhere. Did it again about 30 mins later. !st time they came through I was fly lining and drop looping - they passed me and others got hooked up. 2nd time I got em on the 'ol rusty iron. Fog came in thick around 3:30 ish and it looked like it was engulfing... I saw it from the beach when I landed. Should be good tomorrow.

I'll show for this one, if my truck doesn't explode on the way there.

Fun adventure fishing the 'Shoe yesterday with Landwhale. We blanked on the YT, saw a few hooked by the boats, but 4 I saw hooked all ended in heartbreak. Heard some happy hooting and hollering from one boat. I had a mackerel out and yoyoed, even brought the long stick in case they came up. Lots of red crab out there. I will be back for mine!

How much distance did you end up doing?

lj . blank . looks like it has to bust open in the next couple days.

Not sure exactly but less than 10, probably closer to 8 miles R/T.

Originally I planned to launch from the beach and head more west before turning south as reports have had them up there under birds. We ended up launching from the boat launch, making a pretty straight shot out to the fleet, something like what this shows. I may run out there again next week.

Shoots Native sun rolled up about 100 yards from us and circled, tossed bait and had fish that would not go. They motored SW after that and must have found some biters.

I am planning to launch from the beach on Saturday if you want to meet up and give it another try. Unless the shore break is big, then ill be launching from the boat launch.

Im going to start Bringing a bow and Arrow to cast my iron farther! :rolleyes::jig:
