Wow. Don't see this taking off due to price and size. Most people who tandem are doing it with kids and this would be an overkill. Still hoping to see the new outback :)

lowprofile 07-15-2014 03:13 AM

Anyone recognize the two rock stars on that boat?

I wonder if he's taken it out on the big pond yet and how it did in the surf.

Btw, it's not a kayak.

Looks like you'd need a flatbed truck with a crane to load and unload!
Can't even imagine how much this thing might weigh(?)!
Great camo for either a cruise ship or aircraft carrier!

Might make a good guide boat!

lowprofile 07-15-2014 06:56 AM

It's a boat guys, not a car topper kayak. You'll need a trailer. Although I'm willing to bet it will fit on my old FJ or a suburban with roof rack.

I wonder what the cruising speed is with two on the drives. This thing would thrive in the gulf for trolling.

bus kid 07-15-2014 07:29 AM

Its the same length as my boat! put a 25 Hp four stroke and you could be in Cat in an hour!

Lineman47 07-15-2014 08:13 AM

I've got the pa 14. That tandem pa17 is a boat.

PA 17?!

I like it!! :luxhello:

blitzburgh 07-15-2014 08:43 AM

Anyone notice that Bait tank in the rear of the 4th pic? New model??? Looks bigger than the current Hobie tank to me with a huge hatch.

FISH11 07-15-2014 08:57 AM

To say it's a BEAST is an understatement! That would definately require a trailer or a not raised truck bed. At 230lbs plus gear and anglers that needs more than a trolling motor, it need a 25+ HP motor. I wish they still made, the Center Console Hobie made in the late 80s. That was a lot more usefull and not too large but handled a good size motor for it's lenght. That is in no way a Kayak!

CKallday71 07-15-2014 09:09 AM

I'd car top that on my Golf, no worries!

momo fish 07-15-2014 09:30 AM

Yup. Article says it's the livewell XL

Look like a great line up but for 5k for a tandem and 17ft that's something to really think about. Loved how they shrink the foot print of the back end to increase more deck space, but dislike how they shrunk the front hatch. With all that decrease for front and back and expansion of deck space they didn't shave off any weight on the PA14 2015 models. I'm also digging the hand rail extending longer. More gadget mounts is what I see and 10 freaking rod holder.. oh my oh lordy.... tackle whore...

PapaDave 07-15-2014 09:47 AM

I would trade my 2 PA14's for one of those. I have two kayaks because I wanted to take the grandkids or friends out who aren't real familiar with kayaking.

I already have a trailer.

Might not be a good choice for LJ though.

Nice! I missed that. Hopefully fits current PA's too.

Dave you are right, but it would be GREAT for Gonzaga or most other Sea of Cortez locations.

jorluivil 07-15-2014 02:32 PM

Are they going to allow those on the Islander?

I will be taking this for my Dad and I next year! :D

FISH11 07-15-2014 02:39 PM

That's almost big enough to serve as a mother ship for THE ISLANDER!

YOU know that will be fun for both of you. How soon before there is one to check out?

Iceman 07-15-2014 03:35 PM

September 1, right now dealers can only do presales.

Bert Vega 07-15-2014 03:40 PM

When will OEX have a model to demo? I been thinking tandem island but this may work out better.

Iceman 07-15-2014 04:06 PM

September 1 is what I have been told. My plan is to rig one up with electronics, livewell and trailer and rent for $100 a day and apply that $100 to future purchase :D

That is a good plan. Where do we sign up for a rigged rental?

theluckypig 07-15-2014 05:21 PM

can't wait for launching and landing footage... :D

romspacenut 07-15-2014 05:23 PM

Just saw video of it.

Raskal311 07-15-2014 07:48 PM

after rigging, bait tank, sand wheels, trailer ect what are we looking at? $7k plus? I think i'd like at a 16ish foot Boston wheeler at that point.

^^

momo fish 07-15-2014 09:00 PM

Bingo! Btw interesting you can turn one seat around to fact each other and peddle at same time. Didn't think that was possible. But I guess you just switch the position of drive. Love the look of new livewell.

After trying the PA 12 still can't imagine hauling this thing around. I'm sure there is a need or it would not be build.

Iceman 07-16-2014 08:52 AM

this definitely is not going to appeal to people who are primarily fishing from kayaks because they are cheaper than boats, that is like not buying a $3000 road bike because you can buy a used car for that price.............this thing is going to be really cool! :D

makobob 07-16-2014 09:18 AM

Andy, can you please post the dimentions please, specially the width and height. Thanks for all you do for our community.

PapaDave 07-16-2014 09:30 AM

I've been considering Tandem Island for a while. Thing is, not having any experience with them, it seems it would be kind of awkward to fish from. This looks like just what I was looking for.

Iceman 07-16-2014 09:40 AM

Bob, no height published yet, width 43.5 inches, length 17 feet

So with the length to width ratio it should be faster than the PA14 with one person, AND much faster with two. Still might be tuff in the surf zone, but pratice would make it better. The younger crowd, under 50, should have a ball with this, AND what a BAJA machine it would make!!!!!

Dannowar 07-16-2014 10:28 AM

Is that lake hodges?
