Lack of fishing reports

I'm wondering if the lack of fishing reports lately means that people are just KILLING it, or if it's been really dead?

I haven't been able to get out but I've been reading this and Bloodydecks. A post on La Jolla from BD mentioned that there was 30 Kayaks out in La Jolla yesterday so I was surprised not to see anything on here.

People keeping the info close to their chest maybe?

I'm headed out next Tuesday and Wednesday for SURE!

jorluivil 07-24-2013 11:20 AM

Welcome to the wonderful world of fishing.

Dannowar 07-24-2013 11:36 AM

Uhhhhh.... Get out there and find out....

makobob 07-24-2013 11:52 AM

What are you waiting for? Hook up!!!!

TheBentRod 07-24-2013 12:10 PM

I think they are biting. See you on the water.

CKallday71 07-24-2013 12:16 PM

I WANT to get out on the water but unfortunately, I have to work. D'oh! I'll be out next Tuesday.

I fished La Jolla today, I caught one Calico Bass.

This site used be chocked full of good info, but lately its just seems like FU to everyone except for those in my speed dial, we keep all our secrets to ourselves, and if your lucky we'll post a picture of our catches 3 weeks later.

LAME!

YakHanded 07-24-2013 01:26 PM

such gnar locals man....

"We grew here, you flew here", people who are God's gift to fishing can't spoil the bite! its not allowed!

beef78 07-24-2013 02:09 PM

I personnally enjoy the little hints and tips that people post. I know that the info that is shared is something that they have gone out there and earned, so I am not going to be angry at anyone who wishes to keep a spot secret or whatever. I will however, come out and try to make use of a good bite. Especially, because I have very limited fishing time. This year is the first year that I haven't spent at least 8 months out of the year out to sea (not on my kayak). Even so, I tend not to sweat if the reports are not great because in the freshwater lakes back home, some of the biggest fish I have ever seen were caught when the fishing was slow.

Ditto

Made bait and got a tan!

beef78 07-24-2013 02:22 PM

I was at la jolla on sunday and only saw one kayak with a fish in it. It was nice, but only one fish.

I get where you are coming from, but to me it's the general attitude that I have been noticing on here lately that has me somewhat turned off. I understand first hand how an internet posting can make conditions less desirable for a local or crowd out a bite, but the cryptic pics only posts, not even giving any details are just brag posts, not intended to help anyone.

I understand. It is definately frustrating when you see the posts a couple weeks later or whatever. I just enjoy fishing and try not to get caught up in it too much. If someone wants to brag about their fish, whatev. If some one wants to help out a newb, awesome. I have learned a lot fishing with guys that have been doing it a while, or just watching the guys that are out there and look like they know what they are doing.

TJones 07-24-2013 03:21 PM

i was wondering

the same thing . since the fishing has been excellent closer to home , i have not been down south in about 2 months . i think i have seen a couple posts at best . personally i have had the my best season yet . i caught 4 seabass . a thirty , 2 forty's and a fifty . the crazy thing is the fish were all caught within thirty minutes of fishing on the given day . and i did not spend a fortune in fuel trying to find them . my posts were more about bragging , like you mentioned . :cheers1: . i did not want all my secrets getting out , so i did not get into the details very much . well we will just have to wait and see what the rest of the season has to offer .

driftwood 07-24-2013 03:47 PM

I caught a sand dab Monday and tue a lizard fish. I ate the sand dab and thru the lizard fish back.

Pictures are worth a thousand words

Personally I like seeing the pictures more

Fishing is fishing

If you wait for the report you are often too LATE

:cheers1:

silentsmell 07-24-2013 05:53 PM

YES!! Seeing the pics of everyone's fish definately motivates me to get out there and get my own. Especially when I am stuck at work with nothing to do and I get to browse all these nice photos.

I wish I could explain to you how much more amplified the stoke is when you go out and find your own fish rather than just hearing "Hey, the fish are biting" and you luck into one.

It took a year to get my first one, but I got it on a bite that was going strong for almost a month. It felt awesome, but it didn't feel "earned." Six months later we had fished for 2 weeks straight skunking out, no other kayaks in sight. We worked the grid, did our homework and ended up catching some nice big YT. Those fish felt so much more deserved because of the work we put into it. Those fish and that report never saw the internet.

Lately, the constant demand for fishing reports feels like we are all doing the same group school project but only some of the people are putting in the time to complete the assignment; while others are just expecting to get a good grade as the expense of others hard work.

For any "new guy" wanting a tip on inshore fishing? Find the "bait" and you will find the fish. Any fish one catches weather it be during a "bite" or not translates into experience. Obviously the more fish you catch the better fisherman you become, as each fish caught is a whole new learning experience. To me the "hunt" is also much more gratifying.....

Well said!

Deamon 07-25-2013 05:06 AM

I met this older guy yesterday at the launch in the dark. He had a stern look on his face all morning. He brought he son with him to go "fishing". Pretty much begged me for bait as he passed me the first time. This old guy proceeded to cut through a bunch of our lines a couple of times (without regard!). Needless to say, I saw him leave very early. I did not see any fish on his yak. I wonder if his boy had any fun...one man's perception of the morning. Jim

  • Since I haven't caught anything I haven't posted anything but rest assured that as soon as I do I will not be posting it:D

Technology kills fish current reports

As of now 1053 people have read this post and it has been copied over to Bloody decks if any fish pics and a few other websites...it is a bummer,,, but that is technology...Neil - I would love to help you work on your class project anytime...PM me....:sifone:

StinkyMatt 07-25-2013 07:58 AM

Hey Jim, I saw that grumpy old bastard at the launch too. That guy does not belong on the water, he can't even swim!

I bet it will take him years to catch a real fish.

:D

ful-rac 07-25-2013 08:09 AM

I think I know that guy....that guy's a GOOGIN!

Isn't he a Captain...........................or was it a Skipper:rolleyes:?

taggermike 07-25-2013 10:09 AM

Definitely folks are keeping things quiet. That's ok. Drake's reference to a school group project that every one wants to get an A on with only a few doing the research. Great analogy. I fish when I can, not when the reports tell me too. Who doesn't wish they could go more often? I caught my first kayak YT on a cold windy drizzly day using a big smelt for bait. Just go.

I gotta say that the squid all along the coast has added a new dimension to our bites. Nothing seams to bring out the territorial asshole in anglers like a squid bite. If the YT were spread out along the kelp line and off the NW corner and parking lot eating macks and surface irons like they usually are in July I'm sure reports might be different. Mike

kareem korn 07-25-2013 10:45 AM

The funny thing is some that are the most anti report I've watched them from the start. Catch a couple photo worthy fish and things change.

That being said. I don't mind a "brag report" rather than a "fish report". The one's that have lived their lives on the ocean can read the signs.

makobob 07-25-2013 02:14 PM

Ya pays your nickel, and ya takes your chance, no pain no gain, just do it!!
