So cool to see forktails in the Islander count! Looks like an epic trip. The Islander is the best.

How much is it to go on one of these trips.
|
jorluivil. no GoPro on this trip?

Awesome pictorial and maybe I'll be on next year's to share the glory. Love the 3-tail trifecta pic - that is a memory to last a lifetime!

Nice photo log! Good to see that you found the right kind(s)!

The GOOD:
Frank busted his YT cherry. George caught a fish! Damn! (Actually kicked ass like 2008) Greg caught more fish than he could secure on his kayak. :D:D:D Stan kept his streak of YT alive ( with the worlds smallest YT:D) Eric fished a total of 5 hours and took home an ice chest full of exotics. Greg's incredible videos kills above and below the surface. Simply I amazing footage. :notworthy: I only got 3 Hali's, one of them my PB.:) The BAD: George caught many fish, undeserved bycatch using the wrong rod, dull hooks, bad form and overall lack of finesse. Frank catching Halibut from the boat while kayakers around him were getting blanked. Frank asking what this "fish with a white belly and a yellow tail is called". While holding his first ever YT. Eric's feet. I have never smelled anything so bad in my life. Frank' GO PRO skills. Yes Frank we do want to see the sky! ( post it up!) It was a blast. It was nice making new friends. See you all on the water. |
awesome! looks like a trip that produced and allowed you to shake off the skunk:luxhello:
|
Nice score!
|
super stoked to have gone on the trip. The crew was good, the guys on the trip were better. The fishing was as good as I could have imagined. All sorts and sizes of fish. All sorts of firsts for me.
A trip worth repeating. Thank you to the fellas who allowed me to learn by observation. see you at a launch real soon! |

Hate to jump on this thread, but just wanted to say thanks to OEX for chartering the trip and to the Islander crew for a unforgetable trip and to the fellow kayaker, it was great learning from you and watching you guys fish. My son (turned 10 last month) and I had a blast. Sorry Matt, we got unbelievably lucky (little kids luck, I guess):D. Hope to see you guys out on the water soon. Here are some pictures...

You and your kid rocked!
As long as I didn't lose the Jacpot to George it's all good. I hope your son knows that Dad gets to keep the money as a "Guide fee". :D:D:D Congrats to you and your son on a great fish.:luxhello: |

Jorge- Thank you. That is my best butt to date. Priceless to have it on film. That thing was in 153 ft of water. I need to work on my preparedness (don't drop the gaff and have a game clip open and ready).
It's no wonder I lost a good fish later that day. It was in 50 ft of water and it had plenty of life (me not so much I was on the water for 13 hours straight). A good gaff, but my game clip was not ready. Not sure why I tried to bonk in on the head before it was clipped but, after one bonk on the head... a flip ... a flop... off the gaff... in the yak...then back in the water before I could react. Always learning. Thanks for the video and pics, not only are you a hell of a fisherman, you take good pics too! |

exciting video.. some good tips in there. :cheers1:
I like how you rigged your trap hooks. So do you always prefer to catch fresh bait? vs the sardines and 'chovys from the boat? I have that Teramar rod also, but with a small Avet .. (so I guess the problem is not my equipment, right?! ) Nice meeting you, and congrats on some great catching. -J |
