You Drink Stone Brew? Shame On You

A few of us got this email back from them.........
Just sharing with all my fishing friends.

Subject: Ex Stone Beer Drinker

Well, I just found out about your endorsment of the MLPA. I used to drink only YOUR beer, bring only YOUR beer to functions/events. Go ahead and cross me off your X-mas list. I will no longer buy your product.

Hello!
Many thanks for your note regarding the Marine Life Protection Act. Since opening in 1996, Stone Brewing Co. has been a big supporter of local, community organizations, supporting a variety of interests, activities, and deserving charities that benefit a multitude of different community and environmental causes. One such group that we have been proud to partner with since our humble beginnings is the Surfrider Foundation. We realize that their support of the MLPA legislation can be rather polarizing, however they have assured us that they are committed to working with the public and the science community in order to find a balance that protects special marine reserves, while not unnecessarily displacing those who catch fish for a living or for pleasure. They have set up a webpage to address frequently asked questions, which also contains links for submitting comments on current and future proposals, and we encourage you to voice your concerns there so that fair and agreeable solutions can be found.

WHATS A STONE BREW :the_finger:

VIVA LA PACIFICOS:cheers1:

blitzburgh 01-24-2012 03:27 PM

What a typical, vanilla "try to please everyone" response they gave you. Sounds like something a weasel politician would say. I like Ballast Point brew better anyway! :yt:ale......:cheers1:

JohnnyCope 01-24-2012 03:30 PM

Well I'm burning my stone shirt today ! I will have to go to the market to replace my firdge now as well ! F***

JoeBeck 01-24-2012 03:44 PM

Should post this on Bloody Decks too. I was just having a discussion that Stone is overpriced anyway and does not cut the locals a break like other hometown breweries are known to do... example Sierra Nevada.

Pretty sure Ballast Point supports fishing.

Side note green flash just went to 4 packs. How lame is that! Two local brewery's just lost my business. :stupido::ciao:

bigbarrels 01-24-2012 03:52 PM

never had one, never will:the_finger:

mtnbykr2 01-24-2012 04:03 PM

"Lead Indoctrination Specialist"

YakMedic 01-24-2012 05:41 PM

F**k stone brewery, I didn't care much for their brews anyway. Alaskan brewery smoked porter is the way to go:cheers1:

dos ballenas 01-24-2012 05:54 PM

we ALL need to email them again... that is bullshit!

GregAndrew 01-24-2012 06:21 PM

And tell them that Smurfrider put its support behind the most dramatic closure option.

I've spent a fortune on Stone brews over the years. My everyday beer is their Arrogant Bastard. And I mean every day.:cheers1: I even have an Arrogant Bastard cycling jersey.

I see on their website that they claim to be stopping 160 metric tons of CO2 from going to the atmosphere annually. Uhhm, Stone, that's not a pollutant, plants love it, we all make it, it was 5 times higher than now during the dinosaur age, and it has no correlation to global warming. Zero. Zilch.

Stone Brewery seems to have an affinity for junk science environmentalist science. That's too bad, because there are soooo many good beers to choose from. Stone, "You're Not Worthy". Time to go beer shopping...

Holy Mackerel 01-25-2012 05:53 AM

Stone Brew is over rated, and over priced. Sierra Nevada, and Ballast Point for me. Email sent to them.

Noble 01-25-2012 06:56 AM

Just sent em an email.....Stupid is as stupid does.

PAL 01-25-2012 08:05 AM

 Wow, the surfrider connection... The fake middle of the road. Horrible.

Former stone drinkers, give Ballast Pt a try. They fish; they aren't poseurs.

Siebler 01-25-2012 08:17 AM

Ballast Point is the only thing you will find in the OEX keg.... Shouldnt be a hard switch for a bunch of fishermen to make.

I love Sculpin and Bigeye but there isnt a beer the brew that isnt great.

467echo 01-25-2012 11:27 AM

They just lost me as an occasional customer. I love me some Ballast Point YT, just wish it was more avaiable. If i could get some BP at the same price as a case of Stone @ Costco I'd drive to there store once a week. So whos gunna put the info on a flyer and tape it to the Costco pallet of Stone? :the_finger:Stone Brewery!!

That is a great idea. Maybe we could all hit our local stores and do it at the same time. Kinda like a flashmob....but with purpose!

Deamon 01-25-2012 12:04 PM

E-mail sent.

Mr. Adventure 01-25-2012 12:07 PM

Balls, I love their hoppy stuff. Need to tell my local liquor store to get more ballast.... or brew my own again

GHOSTHUNTR 01-25-2012 01:55 PM

Shocked!!! When someone orders a pale ale at the Belly-Up, I have always given them Stone because it's local. NEVER again. They'll get Sierra from now on. Stone is our best selling beer, but with the help of the other fishermen bartenders there, we'll put a stop to that.

roadx 01-25-2012 03:22 PM

thanks for posting this
i too would occasionally drink this beer. NO MORE :the_finger:

Nailed it! Well struck, sir.
I'm digging the Costco idea too. Ima doit.
Everywhere you shop. Make a simple, informative flyer, not rude or profane, explaining the facts.
From now on. NO MORE STONE. Shame too, that's good beer.

email sent. it felt good to vent.
also, cross posted to spearboard.
lite em up boys.

Dan 01-26-2012 09:29 AM

wow.

this could really hurt surfrider and stone if it gets enough momentum. they do a benefit for surfrider that raises BIG money for them.

Fishermen drink alot of beer.

The head of HR at stone is a family friend, i'll show her this thread and let her know what's up

Dan 01-26-2012 09:33 AM

Let em know Anglers dont appreciate it when you sleep with the enemy..
I am personally responsible for bringing several solid accounts to Stone Brewing in various restaurants throughout San Diego & California.
I will be contacting all my reps and doing my very best to replace all Stone taps with Ballast Point or similar, as a result of them having any affiliation with The Surfrider Phonynation.

This pisses me off! Just sent my letter.

Subject: Unsatisfied Customer

Sad to hear you're company put forward an endorsement of the MLPA. You guys of all people who stand for sustainability, have your own farm to grow local produce then you support closing inshore fishing to local recreation fisherman trying to catch a meal for our families and enjoy our local waters. Fisherman who have supported your company from the start and helped you grow to what you are today. You put your support to larger vessels pillaging our ocean and sending people in the masses to Costco, Kmart, Target and other grocery chains for frozen or non fresh fish. You did nothing for water quality or sustainability for our ocean. What you did do was lose me as a customer, You Are Not Worthy. Think I was just at your southpark location filling up a overpriced growler. Not no more!!

Regards,

X stone drinker AKA Joe Beck!

StinkyMatt 01-26-2012 01:19 PM

You must let the company know that you are no longer their customer.

If you do not not notify them, it is pretty meaningless.

Its like you spitting in my food, if I don't know about it, it accomplished nothing.

Anytime you stop using a service or purchasing a product you must let the business know it. :)

JoeBeck 01-26-2012 01:24 PM

I sent my letter to both email@stonebrew.com and samantha.loveira@stonebrew.com

fishsouthcounty 01-26-2012 01:25 PM

anyone know where you can pick up Ballast Point in the South Orange County area? All this talk is making me thirsty. Never tried it.

Ballast is the best beer out there. I have stopped buying any of the other brands. I had one Yellowtail beer and that was all I needed. A beer that is great and supports the sport I love so much, how can you go wrong with that.
