I've always been a fan of keeping things in order on my kayak; gaff on my right side, paddle on the left, game clip on my right next to the bait tank, phone in the right bottom pouch of my pfd........etc. For whatever reason, one of the things that I was never able to find a home for where my pliers. Well, this past weekend I got a gift from the coolest Vato West of the Mississippi and since I had time on my hands I took a page off Tony's book and decided to mount the pliers on my gaff side.
Here's my newest innovation.....so to speak:D Thanks Kobra!!!! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-v...o/DSCN5747.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x...o/DSCN5748.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Y...o/DSCN5753.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_...o/DSCN5758.JPG |
Holy crap George!

Good idea. Looks like a handy location.

Zip Ties are the perfect thing for Kayak attachments. Light weight, strong as bear snot, salt water proof.
Just remember to change them out about every six months or so due to the fact that the sun will eventually break down the plastic and make it brittle. Duct Tape and Zip Ties can effectively fix 90% of what's broken in the world. We should use a bunch in Congress. |
Stealth 12 Dragonfly Install
This is my first post here (I think...........I know I signed up like a year ago). I've had the yak for a year (first one in line at the Spring OEX blem sale in Compton!! Super sketchy night of no sleep!!!), and it's time to trick it out.
I have the Raymarine Dragonfly mounted on my Striper center console. Purchased a second cradle and transducer kit for the yak so I can move the unit back and forth for cost-effectiveness. Decided to sacrifice the cupholder for a low center of gravity and clean fit. I hate clutter, and I hate crap sticking up awkwardly from a kayak like an ABS plumbing pipe explosion. Not my jam. Here's what I did last week: Testing out clearances and mounting location. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Wa...=w1304-h978-no It appears my transducer may fit the curvature of the hull channels JUST right...or at least close enough. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-g...o/IMG_0019.JPG Aaaaaaaahhhh!!! Hacksaw to a $100 CHIRP transducer!!!! https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X...o/IMG_0021.jpg Like a glove!! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-h...o/IMG_0022.jpg Mounting the baseplate for the cradle was a giant pain. I don't even want to relive that misery with a recap. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-p...o/IMG_0030.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y...o/IMG_0032.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/ln...=w1304-h978-no Fully mounted: nice tight tolerances... https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_z...=w1304-h978-no Ran the wires up through the aft foot well scupper, into the console, wrapped the excess around the inside mold of the cupholder (will be mounting an inverted PVC drain cap to keep the wires in place, and back out through the top of the console with clamshell wire clamps. Nice and clean. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1...o/IMG_0038.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/Mn...w=w734-h978-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Wr...=w1304-h978-no https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/jY...=w1280-h960-no Secured the transducer with a liberal amount of 5200. It's not going anywhere. The front leading edge is not completely recessed or flush, but it's pretty darn close. As long as I'm careful around rocks, I think it's going to work out just fine. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/CK...A=w734-h978-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Jz...k=w734-h978-no https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/jl...=w1304-h978-no Finished product! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Y...o/IMG_0048.jpg Next up is some finishing touches to clean up the wires, and the installation of the battery box and wiring. - Belk out |

Nice mod, but I'd miss the cupholder more than I'd enjoy the FF mount. Crazy the things you'll throw in your cupholder when you're fishing, including but not limited to a beer!

Hobie Outrigger AMa Sidekick Mod:
After,I got my KayakSailor, which I have so much fun in by the way. I was in need of some outriggers. I got contacted by one of my buddies and he told me he had a spare.
This friend made a solid steel support beam that is so heavy it can be used to kill someone with one blow, so I decided to stay away from using his reinforced steel beam for now. I needed to come up with an idea on how to make them not interfere with my paddle stroke. For now, I decided on some 3/4 PVC. I will put them to test this weekend. cut to size: Fits good: Feels pretty strong..... lets see how it holds up! |
So.....here's my latest innovation/build. I put it together but Tony is the one that deserves most if not all of the credit.
