If needed I can bring a Pizza oven that fits on top on my stove. Not that I mind a "slight wood fired taste" at all. Up to you guys.

You know me and pictures, I am sure you will take and post them. This is going to be a GREAT trip. Tight Lines

We will get some pictures of your place on this trip Bob. I slacked off on the video and pictures last time I was down and regretted it. The fishing was just too hot to put my rod down.

Im hoping to be in Abreojos during these dates (depends on work). If so, maybe I'll plan on stopping by on the way down or on the way back for a few days from Abreojos.

Staying at campo rene? Try to find a dude by the name of Chelan at the cooperativa. He is a commercial fisherman down there who, if Okayed by his boss can take americans out fishing for the day. They have a couple of 23' super pangas that are pretty comfortable. Very affordable and the guy has some very good grouper and and yellowtail spots.

Wood Fired Pizza!!!
This smoker/grill is hard to beat. It is portable and keeps a very stable temp, from 150-550 degrees which you can set and hold in a 5 degree range. Works from your car battery or plug it into the wall. Being a pellet grill you can also control wood flavor by changing the flavor pellets.
You can slooooow cooook, bake, grill, roast. Pulled pork, burgers, brats, dogs, steaks, ribs, how about stuffed tomatoes and peppers or eggplant. Fresh baked bread, rolls, pie? Up to you.

I stay there and on the point camping. Definitely my favorite place to fish in Baja with the variety of fishing it offers. Though I've never been to Gonzaga.

makobob 07-28-2016 10:15 AM

What route are you driving???? Usually people go down Highway 1 from TJ through Guerro Negro and on to Abreojos. 13 hour drive. To get to Gonzaga from Highway 1 you have to take a turn at Chapala and go through Coco's Corner which is about 25 miles of dirt road in fair to good condition, I made this crossing last week. From Rancho Grande to Highway 1 took an hour and 15 minutes but I was pushing it. Coming back at a safer pace it took an hour and a half. Feel free to stop by and join us for dinner a night or two if you can. Tight Lines.

Thanks for update on laguna chapala bob. Might be taking that soon. Saves about 1.5-2 hours on the trek south

BRANDON, yes crossing at MEXICALI and going down mex 5 thru San Filipe, Gonzaga, Chapala back to mex 1 is quicker, prettier, and an easier drive, less mountains, fewer topes, less policia, fewer trucks and less traffic. That does make it faster and maybe smarter fuel wise. Tight Lines.

Confirm me in! Carpooling with señor Brandon!

makobob 08-02-2016 06:29 AM

Mike YOU are CONFIRMED. Going to be another trip to paradise. Might just be the best trip of the year, AGAIN. Tight Lines.

My sentri application has been pending review for the last month, but I should have it by this trip. Bob do you have sentri? If so maybe I can follow you the best way on the way back.

I have Slime portable inflator. I use it on my Jeep when I go off-roading. It pumps pretty quick, don't bother wasting your time on one of those from Harbor Freight.

Bob
I am still planing on going on the trip.
Colin will have to be working on his ship in Seattle so he can't make.
Bill who was down with us last time is going to take his place.
We plan on doing diner at the restaurant, Chicken Mole. It was great last time.
Will be driving down 10/25 or 26. Plan on staying until Sunday.
Really looking forward to the trip.

John

Mahigeer 09-18-2016 12:52 PM

Looking forward to some fly fishing this time if the winds allow it.

I hope this 3rd trip would make up for the last two times. Especially the last one.

So here we go.......

1) Can we make this thread a sticky?

2) Should we bring firewood, or it will be too hot for fire at night?

998 to go!

I've been using this one https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for the last few years.

makobob 09-18-2016 01:20 PM

I do have some fire wood (mesquite) so that should not be a problem UNLESS you want a large fire, then bring some. Evening temps could be cool enough to need a jacket or hoodie. Also bring a comfortable chair for evenings. Sun glasses, long sleeve shirts, sun screen and buffs will all make your trip more enjoyable. One extra propane bottle in the larger 5lb size for the BBQ and 10 gallons of PREIMUM gas for the Quad would cut my expenses down. I have fuel for the pellet grill. Lot's of flies, your tackle and CHECK those drags. Tight Lines.

MrPukaShell 09-18-2016 04:01 PM

Mako,

Do you have fuel empty cans with you? If so I will give you the money to fill them up just let me know. Will also bring some wood just because.

Thanks,

makobob 09-19-2016 10:08 AM

Yes I have a couple cans. Thank you and tight lines. If you use wire leaders you can expect to loose or tear up 5-6 a day or more. I try to bring a dozen a day just in case. AGAIN check your drags as this coulg put you out of the game without an extra reel. Some cabrilla are roaming the inside areas, corvina on the beach with quite a few ROOSTERFISH from 1 to over 50 pounds in the surf and bay. Bass, bass, bass, triggers, pargo, maybe the dorado and YT will still be roaming. Be prepared for any senario, this is Baja at it's finest.

Thrift stores like Goodwill or Salvation Army. Also if you have the old fashioned type of swap meet where people clean out their used stuff. How many are you looking for?

Just received it today.

A couple of concerns after reading the enclosed information pamphlet.

Do not run more than 10 minutes. Rest for 15 minutes between uses.

To inflate (4) tires, that is a lot of waiting.

Do not run engine while connected to battery.

Wouldn't running the comp. for at least (40) minutes, run the car battery down?

I guess I have to do some dry runs.

YakDout 09-27-2016 01:05 PM

^ you probably needed one with a better duty cycle. Really the best way is going on board air.

Something such as this

https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/c...FYKHfgod84sFVA

Ya its a little more but it can do 4 37's on one duty cycle.

Hey Guys,
I will be going to check in on Bob tomorrow after work. Hopefully I can get in to see him. It would be great if we can do something for him when we go down to his place next month. Anybody know if there's something that needs fixing or an unfinished project we could work on?

Dannowar 09-27-2016 10:58 PM

The water tank could use a fill. Might make it down in October. I'd also be happy to help.

makobob 10-05-2016 05:36 PM
