I've tried a few times to register/pay but for some reason my paypal account won't process the payment. Is there another possible way to pre-register?

You could Paypal me personally and I could pay for you. I had no trouble registering. Anyone else? Lots of great news to share soon! We've got some prizes on the way in thanks to industry friends. |
I wasn't quite ready to announce this, as the final details aren't set...
Your friend and mine Yanni of Fisherman's Belly knows what Steve is going through. We've all seen the incredible food he prepares. The chef said it would mean a lot to him to cook for the event. He asked the Southern California Chapter of Heroes on the Water if he could step in for them, and they agreed. Please join me in thanking the HOW cooking team for their willingness to help and for their generosity. Okay Yanni, you're up. What's for lunch? |

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...48&oe=56AFB124 Win one! Old guard kayak fishing friend Ric Hawthorne of Ten Crows Forge teamed up with Chance Hauser to make these striking and unique trophy plaques for the Steve Green Shootout. They are a full foot in diameter. Sign up now, 'cause the only way you'll get one is to win the Big Fish or Big Bass honor. "We're all pulling for you Steve!" Ric wrote when he posted this photo. Thank you Ric and Chance for your big-hearted generosity. |
Sweet trophies! Thank you Ric!:luxhello:
|
So what do we do if we have no camera to take picts with. Also don't have a smart phone for picts.
|
Fish for halibut then and just bring it in to the scale!:D
|
We are just one week out! Remember, we're out to have a good time and support our old friend Steven Green in his cancer battle. Think fun, not cut-throat competition. A few helpful reminders:
We are awarding prizes for Big Fish and Longest Catch Photo Release Bass. You don't have to choose one or the other. No bait restrictions. If you catch your winning bass on a live mackerel, we might make fun of you but you'll still win. Big Fish will be single heaviest CA legal fish by weight, no sharks, skates, rays or dead bass. Bring your fish to the scale no later than 1 pm at Baby Beach, Dana Pt. Longest Catch Photo Release Bass: You need two items, three if you count the fish. A camera and a measuring device of some kind. A fish board such as a Hawg Trough is preferred. A tape measure held flat under the fish will work. Let's keep it light - no funny business with pinched tails or stretched mouths please. The entire fish has to be in the photo, head to tail. A 3-judge panel (me, Andy, Steve if he can make it) will make our best judgment on each of the photos. Bring your photo to Baby Beach no later than 1 pm. In case of ties for Big Fish or Big Bass, the earliest in wins. If you pre-registered, launch anywhere in the Dana Pt area shown on the photo in the original post as early as 0001 (1 minute after midnight) Dec 5. We'll take walk-ups at Baby Beach beginning around 5 and ending around 7. Lunch and auction beginning around noon at Baby Beach. Award ceremony around 1:30. If you want a place to sit, bring a chair. Yanni from Fisherman's Belly is cooking... something tasty. He hasn't said what exactly. We'll have water, soda and hot dogs too, as well as plates and plasticware. In the spirit of Baytubers, please consider bringing a dish to share. See you soon and tight lines to everyone! Event questions? Take another look at the original post. If that doesn't answer, fire away. |
just signed up and looking fwd'd to it
let's go Steve |
Close to home...
When I read about Steve's challenge I knew I needed to help. I
went through the same ordeal a few years back and it's scary. Family and friends are a great help, but your fishing buddies staying in touch through out the whole ordeal provides that added touch that helps on your toughest days. Believe me. I started fishing bass tourneys years ago and that's where I first met Steve. I admired his dedication and ability to pull out bass when no one else could. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...1/IMG_0691.jpg I asked Steve if I could cook at his get together and he said yes. I've been remodeling our new home's kitchen and haven't been on the internet much. I hope the HOW guys don't mind me helping an old friend. I'm gonna make the best fish tacos I can make. Everything will be made from scratch. I've got 20 pounds of Halibut so far. But with the attendance continuing to climb, I'm going to need more fish!! If you got some extra fish fillets at home and plan on coming, pm me!! Any fish will do. Can't wait to serve you guys! Especially our friend Steve. A note. For those guys out there that just don't know what they can do for Steve, send him a pm--a time or two--and tell him to be strong and that he's in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks, Yanni |
Steve went in the hospital on Friday for a procedure. Said he would be there a few days and was really looking forward to next Saturday.
If anyone wants to drop him an encouraging line his e mail blueoceankayak@hotmail.com Having gone to a bunch of tournaments together in the past, I have to say that these get togethers seem to always mean more to Steve than anyone that I know for the pure camaraderie. |
BTW we are approaching 50 people entered for next Saturday, that is $1000 we have raised to help out a friend in need!

Weather Underground is predicting good conditions for this Saturday's Shootout for Steven Green Kayak Fishing Friendly at Dana Pt. We'll likely take pre-registrations through Friday. Remember, you can launch at 0001 if you sign up in advance - Paypal link on the event page. Day-of die hards, we got you. You can find me at Baby Beach around 0500. |
What radio channel for the "official" conversations and updates? I understand other sub-groups will have their own for the day.
|
I'm in. A radio channel would be nice.
|
Lets say 71 official radio channel
|
Signed up but going to help on shore where needed. Jim
|
putting together a box of give aways just for peeps showing up, few fillet knives, t shirts and some hooping stuff.
|
signed up but won't be able to make the tournament. Fished with Steve last month on Mission Bay. Nice guy so have to do what I can to help him.
|
I received an unexpected package today... Mad Frog Gear has donated some product for the raffle.
|
66 paid entries and counting, a lot of guys paying knowing they can not attend and a couple of these paid multiple times for $100 donations. I anticipate 35-40 people fishing right now.........maybe more. $1320 raised to help out Steve with these entries and more the day of with some cool donated prizes!
|
Awesome!!!
:luxhello: That's good news!!!
I got fish at the ready! I'm planning on bringing my firepit also, anybody know if we are ok to light a fire at baby beach?....so we don't freeze our asses off in the morning? |
Tony, I had the same idea, but my firepit is on it's last leg. Not sure if it's allowed either. Seems to me if it's contained, it should be ok. I have plenty of wood should you choose to bring the pit.
|
The closest fire rings are at Doheny. Baby Beach has BBQs but no fire pits. Maybe just use one of the BBQs for a fire?

66 entries! This gets better and better. Like so...
Thank you Hobie Fishing for supporting the Shootout for Steven Green Kayak Fishing Friendly tournament. Hobie kicked in a brand new in-the-box Livewell for a raffle prize. The folks in the fishing department came up through the grassroots - they are genuine kayak anglers and show it by supporting the community. The forecast is looking great. See you Saturday! Photo courtesy of Hobie Cat. |
I will bring my propane fire pit and a full jug in case it is needed.
