Like Andy said, cranks and nets are not a good combo. I don't use crank baits too often but when I do I usually remove the front treble hook. It's easier on the fish and easier on you if you're C&R-ing. It's safer as well; having a pissed fish thrashing around in your lap with multiple trebles in it's face is not fun. Those fresh water cranks don't hold up too well in the ocean. The hooks rust off and as you found the lures break apart. They cost more but the cranks designed for the ocean have better hooks and the hooks are conected through the body of the baits with wire. Mike

You were a busy boy! Thanks for the glimpse of hope for us crankbaiters...

day of firsts
Wow! You sure scored a bunch of newbies. I remember EVERY SINGLE ONE of my first catches, although they did'nt always come in bunches like that.
Congrats on the fishing, the catching - and mostly thanks for the sharing. |
Good job out there!
Sounds you you had a great day out there. Strong work from one newbie to another.

Looks like a blast! Nothing better than spotties on the crankbait. They hit like freight trains when they really get goin.
