I read this last night
I read the artical last night.
After waking up to the alarm at 5:00, I unpluged the alarm. Then got up a little after 7:00. Some people think the bite is best between 8:00 & 9:00, so I knew I had time. Went to deep water first thing picking up a greenback on the way out. Although I have cauhgt yellows with irons before, I had not caught one yo yoing with the 6x. With the artical that Pat wrote still fresh in my mind, I gave a mighty heave with the iron. I let it sink to the bottom with the line a little tight. I felt it hit the bottom and began to reel. I got 2 turns into it, and I felt the bite. Pat says to keep reeling and let the rod load up. I did this and knew it was a good hook set. Since the fish was heading my way I remember Pat says to pull it off the bottom which I did. Then the head shakes got strong. After a few tug of wars, I got the fish vertical. Using the rod I pulled the fish the rest of the way a little at a time until the gaff. Thanks for the tip Pat New lure, first cast of the day, 23 lbs. 38 inch fork length. Iron chucker
Pat,
Great info on the iron tossing. It takes guts to go without bait. I usually try to have both available, but there have been times when I slept to late to make bait and slid out after sunrise and stuck one. When the squid are around having a little GLOW on the iron does't hurt either. Dave |
Hey Andy
I read your white sea bass artical too.
Wishful thinking. can't wait |
qoute](although I don't always know what direction the current is going, just where the wind is pushing me.) always look at the direction the kelp is pointing. that will tell you wich way the current is going.
