I've sent a letter to each one of them and will be at the meeting. Also going to call each of them. We can not have our City Council show support for radical closures and we must show up in force to fight the Coastkeepers. At the very least they need to show support for Map 2. Not being able to responsibly use the ocean, that is a right we can not lose. We can not be told that we can not go and enjoy nature, especially inshore in a low impact manner. Sorry hanging out in the concrete jungle does not do it for me. I am not a large parking lot mall going type of guy. I enjoy nature when I'm not at work and I do it by interacting with it.

Does anyone know how city council meetings work? Will everyone be able to comment?

I was told by phone from Donna Frye's office that everyone who wants to speak, can speak.
They want to hear both sides of the argument.

Hello Everyone....
Are You Sending in Your E Mails ???

Please send your E Mail's today, I was told by Donna Frye's Office that they are going to use those E Mails and Public Commentary to Make a Decision wether or not to go forward with the SD Coast keepers Request.

-You can bet that the Other Side if Flooding the Council Members with E mails to boot your As* off the water!
-This literally takes a couple of minutes to compose an effective e mail and SEND IT TO EVERY COUNCIL MEMBER'S E MAIL ADDY POSTED IN THE THREAD.

Please do it now. We will have our work cut out for us at the meeting.
All the Friends of Seal Nut Cases, and Enviro Zombies will be there trying to drown Us Out.

Make the commitment.

This warrants repeating.

-If Recreation Kayak Fisherman/Spearos-etc. can't use it- Nobody Else Can Either!
This is Only a Law Suit Filing Away-

The State AG's Office just clarified their position on what non-fishing activity is prohibited in a State Marine Reserve.

Basically, any activity that "injure" to "any" living marine resource is a no-no in a State Marine Reserve unless it's "permitted research, restoration, and monitoring."

This is a powerful argument with SD city council against SMRs in La Jolla (as in Group 3) and Point Loma. We should bring this up--if La Jolla and Point Loma is closed to beach access, surfing, boating, diving, etc., the city of San Diego will take it on the chin.

See here.

Man oh man...and at the Surfrider meeting when I mentioned what area I'd like to see stay open in N County, they laughed.

No more surfing for you fellas....

Let's see how they like it when they have to paddle 3 miles to get to a surf spot...

Here's the link to Coastkeeper's proposal:
http://docs.sandiego.gov/councilcomm..._091007-8a.pdf
LaJolla specifically is mentioned several times. They want it all. If you can make this meeting, please do!

Billy V 10-05-2009 05:07 PM

Take Particular Notice of Section 4.

Section 4
THE CITY COUNCIL OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA ENDORSES THE PLACEMENT OF A FULLY PROTECTED MARINE RESERVE IN LA JOLLA.

JoeBeck 10-06-2009 08:42 AM

Yeah funny how they threw in an exact location at the very end.

- Joe

Billy V 10-06-2009 10:18 AM

They Mean All of La Jolla.

Thats why they didn't specifically reference a proposed (SMR) as posted on any map.

JoeBeck 10-06-2009 11:03 AM

They are clearly trying to sidestep the MLPA process by getting the city involved. We need everyone who fishes in San Diego to show up at this meeting tomorrow.

habanero 10-06-2009 03:53 PM

I'm going. Does anyone have an idea how many are going?

emrliquidlife 10-06-2009 04:27 PM

Okay, I'm just now able to plug into this.

I'll have the video, but I'm worried about being there for hours on end while we wait to present. I'm hoping to get down, do my business and get outta dodge.

Do I need to take any special steps in order to show the video? I can bring a laptop, and the video is on a USB drive. So, unless anyone has some specific info, I'll coordinate with the A/V guy down there.

Billy V, next time I'm going down, I'll try to coordinate with you. Getting a YT this season is high on my list of priorities.

FISHIONADO 10-06-2009 04:38 PM

You can submit comments online that will get sent to all the council members. Anyone know the Agenda Item Number? I typed "NR&C Coastkeeper Proposal Oct-7-09" in the agenda number field.

FISHIONADO 10-06-2009 05:57 PM

It's Agenda Item 8

Found the agenda here:

Holy Mackerel 10-07-2009 07:53 AM

Bump, I'll be there with my baby, since I do not have baby sitting. This is IMPORTANT!

Royak 10-07-2009 09:57 AM

Facing Reality

The City Council committee will strongly support the enviros. Probably unanimously. Give it your best shot, but also try to modify Proposal #1 so it doesn't effect our Big Rock kayak launch area at Windansea Beach (near Palomar St.)

Moving the proposed reserve's northern border south to "Pink Wall" -- the cliff area just south of the launch area would maintain a hassle-free launch & return area for fishermen.

It would also make the northern border visible, natural and enforceable.

Next to LJ Shores, Windansea may be the safest beach launch in San Diego.

Proposal #1 is also in violation of the Windansea Plan, approved by the City. go to http://www.nerila.com:80/fow/index.html to see how fishing is supposed to be protected there.

Sorry to be negative (I still say we should "Sue the Bastards").

JoeBeck 10-07-2009 10:08 AM

If the majority of people who show up "YOU" are not enviros and don't support this proposal the city council can not. Their job is to represent the majority opinion in their district. If they fail to do so you need to make sure your voices are heard loud and they know they will be losing future votes and public support.

That is why Everyone needs to show up at this meeting or we will be hearing from the Coastkeeper and San Diego at the upcoming MLPA meeting showing support to close the coast of SD.

They are not asking for support for the MLPA process, it is a little late for that, we who have attended meetings have shown support of the process by being involved in it. There are 3 maps left, coastkeepers are side stepping this and trying to gain support for maximized closures outside of the required MLPA's.

You who think you can not make a difference or put up a good fight will always lose in the worst way.

Exactly!

YES ON MAP 2 today guys, stick with the game plan, urge the City Council to abopt their OWN proposal, and reject Coast Keepers proposal.

Every man, woman, and child (cough, cough Marine business owner) needs to be there today.

emrliquidlife 10-07-2009 10:40 AM

Guys I'm having a tough time figuring out how to make this work.

Is there a way I can get the video to one of you guys so that the safety side of the house can be addressed?

Via FTP or something. The vid is some 25 megs so email seems to be out.
