Is there a reason to always use a mono or other leader? Is it to add some stretch in the end of the line, or to have less visible line?

Shock leaders are good because, it is very easy to pull a hook with straight spectra, esp on WSB, and YT. Visibility can be a factor as well to varying degrees. I like Seaguar Fluoro...

Thanks for the feedback. I will stop being lazy and use a leader.

Dave

If you throw an extra half-hitch to the tag ends of the spectra [tight to the knot] in the uni-to-uni it helps a lot with slip.

I try to keep it simple with a double Palomar knot at the spectra to swivel connection, then a single Palomar knot of flouro to the other side of the swivel as a leader.

Then a Palomar knot at the hook.:D

Ditto.

Breaking 80# anything on a yak is simply reee-dick-ulous...there is something wrong. Well tied etc. you'd be f'd trying to break 25# without a secondary cause.
