A small bottle of water is enough for me when I'm fishing, but not necessary.
After landing, it's nice to grab a sandwich or egg & ham bagel, etc., and maybe a coffee or a beer as a treat after a beautiful morning fishing. If I'm near Shelter Island, I like the sausages & beer at the public fishing pier. Point Loma Seafood is good too, relaxing on the outdoor deck upstairs with coffee and a plate of french fries. Good burgers, Italian food and dive bars nearby. Living Room Coffee shop for a pastry & coffee. The restaurant next to the La Jolla Shores launch has good margaritas. The breakfast & coffee shop at the corner of La Jolla Village Dr is good too. Dana Point Landing makes great sandwiches and the beer is cold. Nice to sit on the patio and watch the harbor. If I have shopping to do at Squidco, I like Volare restaurant next door. NSFW, but I like the music and ambiance after fishing. It's a beautiful song: http://www.pbase.com/click_hamilton/image/116118885 If music is food that feeds the heart and soul, here's another OTW song I like: http://www.pbase.com/click_hamilton/image/100014185 Life is as sweet as we let it. |
No food. Just keep hydrated. You ever felt a persistent turtle head 2-3 miles from launch?. No thank you.

Personally I usually bring about 20oz of water I rarely ever touch. Just started bringing an RX bar in my PFD pocket for a snack if I get hungry. Usually just don't eat or drink anything from the 0600 launch til about 1300...if I brought food and drink my wife would definitely have a problem with how long I stay out at la jolla... |
Incase anyone was interested in the follow-up for Omeals. I tried one on the water this weekend and man having a warm meal makes all the difference on the water. All of a sudden I can stay out all day.
The meal does heat up quickly to a warm temperature. Taste is decent considering there's a 2-3 year shelf life on these things. The serving is only 8oz which I felt wasn't enough for a full meal. They need to make double servings of this stuff. But having this and a bag of trail mix or mixed nuts is enough to keep my energy level and enthusiasm for getting skunked all day.:linesnap: I am ordering a dozen in different flavors for the next Baja trip and seeing if I still like it. |

I'm on the water 6-8 hours so I always bring a sandwich and water. Also usually beer, soda, and some snack like trailmix.
