"I didn't join BWE to get spammed." Wow!
Wow, the nerve of some of you folks! Are you that entitled? You join a free website, receive free webcams/services and then act like you are paying a subscription when you complain about being spammed? Sure, it's a nuisance but how much effort did it take to hover the pointer over the delete button and click? whaaaaa! |
Found the spammer ^^

OK Gang.
x89 was the final number. User vietcious, who joined 7/26/2011 from an IP in LA Area, has sent 89 PMs overnight. If we didn't had the PM flood measures in place - it would have likely been more. We purged those PMs from everyone's Inboxes. What most likely happened here - this is probably legitimate user, whose password got hacked - there's been an increased amount of random login probing attempts. The account is banned now - if the person contacts us, we may lift the ban... Once we change the password. So - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A STONG PASSWORD IN PLACE. We've been thinking about enforcing strong passwords for everyone, forcing everyone to change it periodically. But that would increase the amount of users that are having problems registering, as well as problems resetting their passwords. Which would put a strain on our already limited volunteer resources. And plus we'd have to listen to a number of you whine... :D What do you guys think, how much of an inconvenience would it be if you log on one day and the forum forces you to change your password, and enforce a complex password? |

Hey - I didn't say anything. :D But I must admit - similar thought DID cross my mind :the_finger: No worries, it's all good. :) Please DO continue to report these things. Fighting spam on a public forum is an on going battle - they just never friggen stop. A number of you did the right thing - report the spam post/PM, just click the report button! That fires out an alert to all Admins/Mods - that's the best way to get our attention, if we don't happen to be on the forum. |
pm notification
I still show that I have one PM in my inbox but it is not there. I can't get it to zero out

We've been thinking about enforcing strong passwords for everyone, forcing everyone to change it periodically. But that would increase the amount of users that are having problems registering, as well as problems resetting their passwords. Which would put a train on our already limited volunteer resources. And plus we'd have to listen to a number of you whine... What do you guys think, how much of an inconvenience would it be if you log on one day and the forum forces you to change your password, and enforces a complex one? You do what you feel is best for BWE, most of us understand and will do what you ask of us. If we did not like this site we would be gone. You do a great job for our community. Keep up the good work. Tight lines to all. |
Thanks Bob!!
In the meantime - you guys should not wait. On BWE, or ANY other place on the internet where you have a login account - you better have a strong password. Sven, I see the problem. This is because we purged those spam PMs before you got to read it/it got marked as read. Hangn' in there, we'll figure it out. |

10-4 masta,
I'm workin' on it, workin' on it... Put the whip down! :D |
Masta', are you good now?
This is going to be tough to do the mass update, as there are accounts that truly have unread PMs - we don't want to reset count on those. Anyone else that still has this problem - shoot me a PM and I'll fix it on case-by-case bases. svendawg - you should be good. |
Good here. Had the count of one with no message but it finally 0'd out. Thanks Adi.
|
Thanks Mark! :cheers1:
If any one of you still has this problem with PM notifications showing unread messages and all are read - just hit me up, we'll fix it. |
Thanks Adi!
Adi,
Thanks for all you do here as admin. If this site didn't correctly function I would have to actually work at work, and that would suck! :cheers1: as far as the password goes, if I have to change it here, I will be forced to change it on every site I go to on the inter web thingy. but no worries. |
