Yes rick deserves credit for standing by...

I give rick credit for coming over and trying to help out where he could, he stood by and helped out with holding onto my pfd and waders.

The fact is he did not save my life.... he didn't have to, but he could have if I was in serious trouble. The fact is "I" righted my kayak, an "I" climbed back on. Let's not forget Jorge was there too.

What saved me is simply being prepared. Having the right tools in the right place and having trained myself for just such a situation. Like Jorge said there are no heros here, everybody did what they were supposed to do, and stood by ready to help if needed.

The inflated vest made it look like you were choking out but if you only listen to the video, you were handling it pretty darn well.

When I saw Jorge in the background (2:03) with that gaff in his hand...I knew you weren't going to die. Makes me wonder if he regrets not having the chance to stick...er...save you with it...Jim

that yak was seriously full of water. it doesn't take long, once the yak ( PA) is flipped, its full.
i hope i have a rick around if i ever flip again.
keep cool, don't panic and..... catch bugs :D

All that matters at the end of the day is no one got hurt! Yakking is not as safe as watching TV at home, but we all know that and accept the risks.

I just have to say its awesome that whoever was there was willing to help another yakker, whether or not he needed help.

WE rock as a collective brotherhood and we know it, Congrats to all for being part of a corrected problem and positive outcome! You all rock!

That's a great rescue video for the 'typical' kayak but for those that have PA's the video is worthless..........no pun intended. PA's are not your typical kayak and that's one of the reasons Tony's PA ladder is a must, side mounting a PA isn't impossible but I can assure you that it's not easy. The most important thing is to know your kayak; how it reacts in mixed swells, its tipping point, how to upright it, how to mount it, etc. I'm in the process of making my own PA ladder, I've seen Tony use it in both flat and very choppy conditions and I can assure you that it works 110% better than mounting the PA sideways. Also, because the PA is very wide trying a upright it using the same process in the video is virtually impossible, that is unless you have something tied to one of the side rails that will help you pull it over.

Guys, take a good look at the rails on some of the new Hobies for 2015.....The stearn ladders might just save your lives. Much harder to reenter these WIDE boats with a longer rail. Maybe on your sea trial before you buy you should tryout reentry in shallow water. That ladder is important, learn how to use it. It should be your best friend.

I don't own a PA but plenty of vids around, it doesn't look that tough. You don't need a ladder, just climb on the back. You can reenter from the side like normal. If it's so choppy out that you flipped your yak, it's probably a good bet that you'll fall off/flip again from trying to stand up on the thing from a rear reentry in rough water. You don't need a rope to flip it upright, just grab the masts and pull it over or climb on top while its upside down and flip it. Use the waves to help you flip it. It's going to have water inside after a flip.
