250 is ridiculously good. I have so many kayaks that YakMedic actually has a few of mine for me and I would consider this boat at that price.

And I bet it you step over to see Andy while in the area he will give you a deal on a paddle. Then your all set!

All that and still under budget, that is a hard to beat deal. Congratulations and enjoy the addiction.

So I know I'm probably gonna get some flack for this decision but I'm going to purchase a new Lifetime Tamarak 120. I sincerely appreciate the generous offer from YakMedic and I hope we can get together on the water sometime and get into some fish. That tarpon 120 is manufactured so much better. There really isn't a comparison.

I'd buy the Tarpon and try it first, if you didn't like it then I would consider looking at something else. I have a Hobie which I love, but I still take my Tarpon out every now and then.

You are joking about buying the Tamarak over the Tarpon right? You might want to do some better research!

This is a very very poor decision on your part.

There is no comparison the older wilderness system is far better and has a great reputation for kayaks.

Lifetime Tamarack=Yugo

Wilderness System=BMW

You can get the yugo for cheaper but it won't perform nearly as well.

my reasoning is the age of the kayak. it seems more logical to purchase a new kayak with warranty (albeit of lower quality than the tarpon). i understand that it is a great model and is widely respected and by no means think that YakMedic would sell me a faulty kayak.

Quality of used tarpon>quality of new tamarack

I once owned an Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro for over 14 years and it still had a ton of life left. These plastic kayaks are almost indestructible.

The tarpon is a far better kayak used than a new Tamarack.

This is a total no brainer.

How many Tamaracks do you see out there fishing?

Not many.

There are tons of Tarpons.

There is a reason for that obviously.

Enjoy your kayak, It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I just try and help people get into the sport and on the water and will offer the kayak up to the next guy that comes along with a budget.

That's funny you say that, I was thinking the same thing. I've only seen one or two being paddled in the safety of the marina by people that don't frequent the water. I have never seen one fished from or even rigged for fishing. I'm not saying that to kayak fish you have to own a certain brand, but there's a reason only a few different brands are fished over and over, quality and reputation. Wilderness Systems is right up there with Ocean Kayak, Malibu, and Hobie.

The Tarpon 120 is a $900 12' kayak that paddles great and is fully suitable for ocean use. The Tamarack 120 is a $370 10' kayak that's going to have serious limitations for paddling and fishing. $250 for a Tarpon is a killer deal.

Maybe you should just try to re buy your sit inside kayak back..... honestly EVERYONE on this site is giving you solid advice. You are chomping at the bit wanting to get into this sport and EVERYONE IS TELLING YOU THE SAME THING. Go ahead and buy a turd with a warranty, what's it matter anyway....

Alright guys, give the kid a break. It's his decision to make and all that matters is he is joining the sport. I was speaking to a kayak rep last weekend and he had some insight where no one ever buys their last kayak. Regardless of what kayak he starts with there will be an upgrade eventually.

As for the Tarpon I offered up for sale, It's sold already to someone else that messaged me after Schmalzy said he didn't want it.
