You need to know how you want to install it before you buy. Where you plan on putting the battery, the head unit and the transducer will help determine what extras you need for mounting. If you don't have a battery bag, or don't want to use it, you may need a battery box to store it. If you plan on keeping the battery in the hull, you probably need a Cable Clam or similar watertight thru hull port. The HDS, and most other units, comes with a large base, so you need a large area to mount it. That might require a Ram mount if you don't have the area where you want it to be located. The transducer can be mounted over the side, in hull or thru hull. There are various method for all of these that require some kind of parts and/or supplies. You best bet is to check out the Share your Innovations thread to see what works best for you.

Thanks for the good info about the HDS-5. I have a REVO 11 so I need to do more research on mounting options.
