What a great report. The pics were awesome, I really liked the shot by the fire. Sashimi with a Jim Beam chaser, what a life. Thanks for taking the time to write such great story. Now I have another place on the bucket list....

Great report and pics. In your photo of the 2 halibut I noticed that the fish at the bottom of the picture looks different from the fish at the top, bigger mouth, longer jaw, way more teeth, more rounded dorsal and anal fins, and different colored tail. The top fish does look like a pacific halibut but the bottom one looks like maybe an arrow tooth flounder. Are they different and if so what is the bottom fish? Inquirering fish head mind wants to know. Thanks mike

Hey thanks everybody for the good words. Trip was really cool - Ryan- I did not want to come back! Have not been out to LJ yet but that day with the seabass was really cool - thanks for the photos! Nailed them the next day too!
The second halibut looking thing is an arrowtooth flounder! You are right, weird looking thing big mouth and teeth - tastes awful bad. Caught a bunch of those and several halibut that night. They were biting the heck out of everything - huge plastics, mega baits and herrring. Lots of fish out there. See ya all off LJ! |
Thanks for the confirmation, and I nailed it in one too. I raised CA halibut at the Hubbs hatchery in carlsbad. Since then the flat fish are kinda dear to my heart. Mike.
