Picture My Kayak
Purchased my first kayak in 2011, it was rigged by CJ Seibler at OEX Mission Bay, San Diego and shipped to my home on Long Island, NY in the fall. I chose the Malibu Stealth 14 as my first kayak for several reasons. Growing up in San Diego I am used to fishing with live bait, and I had always wanted that option on my kayak. The Stealth has a bait tank built right into the cockpit and that was appealing to me. I also liked the stability, and the hull design. I had planned to fish mostly the protected waters of the Long Island Sound (bays, estuaries, etc.). I wanted to be able to fly fish from it as well, so I added a Stand-N-Fish leaning post/pontoon system to sight fish for striped bass and bluefish. I also added a BassYaks motor to mainly help stem the tide to hold position in the wind and current while casting, but also as a backup safety to assist in getting me off the water quickly should the conditions get suddenly nasty. It has a 46# thrust MinnKota trolling motor, with steering provided by the pedals for true hands free fishing. Along with a host of other electronics and features this was a boat that I had dreamed of once I experienced the taste of kayak fishing. I hope you like it. :-)
